Today, the pennsylvania lawmaker asked his fellow lawmakers in d. C. To make sure the department of justice did not do anything wrong in its investigation. Nbc 10s Rosemary Connors reports. Reporter on the day before his first court appearance, chaka fattah is making two requests of the Congressional Committee on oversight and government reform. He wants the committee to require the department of justice to preserve any materials related to his case and he wants the committee to review the investigation by the feds. In a letter to the Committee Chairman and ranking member, fattah writes my case appears to be conducted in a manner that suggests prosecutorial misconduct. The congressman accuses federal investigators of violating grand jury secrecy laws in an effort to embarrass him and among other misdeeds, knowingly making false statements in the indictment. The 11term democrat is charged with racketeering, conspiracy and bribery. He maintains he is innocent. In the letter, he reminds the committee that in the past, there have been other lawmakers wrongfully accused and later acquitted. He tells them it is no secret that for decades, appropriators in both the house and senate have been the target of unconstitutional and illegal investigations. Im rosemary con nors, nbc 10 news. Congressman fattah is married to nbc 10 anchor renee chenaultfattah, who is referenced in the criminal complaint against her husband. She is labeled as person e and an affiliate of the fattah enterprise. The feds allege renee participated in a scheme to fraudulently sell a car in order to pay Closing Costs on a vacation home. She is not charged and denies any wrongdoing. Renee is on leave from nbc 10. A community banding together right now. There is a meeting following recent violence in West Philadelphia just this month. A bakery owner was shot and just last week a man was shot in the back of his head standing outside a water ice stand. Neighbors are fed up and want more of a police presence. Just this week, Time Magazine featured Police Officers in the 19th district. It profiled Police Officers about what its like to be an officer a year after ferguson. Also, a Delaware County man is arrested on charges he raped a 5yearold girl. His name is ronald macneal. He is behind bars tonight. Police say he molested a neighbors daughter who slept over at his house. Detectives arrested him on saturday. A firefighter run over on the job in Montgomery County. Tonight the captain talks about the dangers his volunteers face every day. Most pennsylvania towns use volunteers, unlike philadelphia. Today, they saved people from a fire and trapped in an elevator but it was a car that injured him. Nbc 10s Deanna Durante joins us with more on that injured firefighter. Reporter outrage tonight from firefighters. That firefighter was standing here directing traffic. He had just finished an elevator rescue and the fire truck was backing out of this driveway here when a woman came down the street according to firefighters and hit him. At first all i saw was a person flying through the air. Reporter tyler didnt see the car right away. He heard the impact and rushed outside. I just punched in 911 on my phone and ran out. Reporter then he saw fire trucks were already there. That was the craziest part. He hit pretty much dead center on the hood. He had a very large gash on the top of his head. It looked like his nose might have been broken. He had a big bruise on his right forearm, kind of cuts and scrapes all over. Two children and their mother coming out of a pediatricians office. Just a routine call. The elevator stopped working. We had to go in, get it open, get them out. Wasnt a big deal. Reporter with the mom and her kids rescued the job was over until one of their own went down. Should be aware. Person standing out there in reflective material head to toe, waving a baton, and people not paying attention when driving, whatever the reason was, and never saw the individual standing there directing traffic. Reporter these are all volunteer firefighters including that Fire Police Officer that was hit right here on this road in new hanover township. The driver did stop. The police do tell me the investigation into this accident is continuing. Deanna durante, nbc 10 news. Two construction workers are in the hospital after falling four stories off a building and getting shocked. It happened in north philadelphia this afternoon at 16th and oxford streets. Police say the workers came in contact with some overhead wires. One worker is in critical condition. The other is stable. Now to an effort to help local businesses prepare for the pope. This afternoon, philadelphias department of commerce launched a hotline to answer questions from businesses about how the popes visit will impact their daily operations. It put together the idea as it became clear how difficult things were becoming for merchants. I think for a lot of the businesses, this is about feeling like they can talk to somebody, we are giving them the somebody. This is people who are used to talking to businesses about particular problems. The hotline will be open monday through friday from 9 00 to 5 00. The philadelphia zoo announced today it will close during the popes visit. The zoo will stay open on friday, september 25th, but close saturday and sunday. S. 301 toll road in southern New Castle County can get a 211 million low interest loan. That stretch of road goes from the delaware Maryland Line to state route 1. M. , crews will work on i95 south between route 132, street road in bensalem township. Only one lane of traffic will get by. Then were close to 90 on wednesday, then dropping somewhat on thursday and friday. Probably because of the clouds, partly because of the rain. The temperature is certainly dropped in northeast philly. 80 degrees. 84 in trenton. That dropped to 80 when they had some rain, now starting to warm up again. The southerly wind keeping the humidity in. You can see with the wind direction coming in off that cool ocean, its nice and comfortable at the shore. Its a great time there, a terrific weekend. Feels like the 90s still across much of the area. It also has been wet. We have a flood advisory for a good bit of northeast philly. Everything just west of i95 and a small portion of Montgomery County right across the border. You can see how isolated this is. Even most of philadelphia not seeing any rain, let alone the rest of the area. We had a heavy shower farther to the north, up the delaware river. That died. The one around trenton moved out and died. But this one has just been sitting there, one heavy shower. Fortunately its finally fallen apart. You can see very quickly in the last hour we are finally seeing that. Thats really good news because theres been too much rain there, probably a little flooding as well. Thats why theyve had the flood advisory. The radar estimates near pine road and welsh road, up to two to three inches of rain. Thats just in like an hour or two. So that was a lot of rain in a small area. Now as we go into tomorrow, we will see more isolated showers in the afternoon. Most of those probably to the north and west of philly. Then even more widespread on wednesday. You just have day after day of wind coming in out of the south. Eventually, you will get enough moisture to build up more showers and storms. Thats what were going to be seeing here. We will be seeing this hot weather retreat down to the south. It will take a couple more days. But the temperature late this week is not going to be anywhere near what it has been the last couple of days. And will be tomorrow. For tonight, we continue to see the isolated showers that are already dying out. Warm and humid night, 75 for the low in philadelphia, 68 north and west. During the day tomorrow, another hot, humid day. It will feel a lot like today. Some places will feel as hot as 98. In dover, it felt as high as 99 today. And just isolated afternoon showers.
