Dr. White, thanks for being here this afternoon. We spoke with you last week when the city announced the highway closures released its socalled traffic box. Yesterday we got so much more information, lot of detail about that box and the security restrictions that will be in place. You were a former officer with canadas military intelligence service. You were involved in managing large security details like this very one right here. In your opinion, how does this plan look to you . Well, as we see the plan today its much different than what we were initially hearing. We heard a lot of rhetoric, there was a lot of chatter out there. There was no narrative along with what we were seeing. I think this is a pretty intense plan and it seems to cover all the major bases i think we are looking at. Dr. White, we received this question from a viewer. She asked us what many people are wondering, what is the reason for keeping Philadelphia Residents captive and hindering businesses to this extent . Can you answer that for her and others who have that same question from a security perspective . Yeah. I think first thing we want to acknowledge is its really showing peoples frustrations. Its a very pejorative question. I think it shows the frustrations of peoples anxiety and not really being told the information they really want to know. I think that its important we dont have to give out the Security Intelligence information, but i think its important that people understand exactly why we are doing the things we are doing. Give us some perspective from your experience, why do we need this large perimeter . We understand theres that fine line between giving out too much information, but giving out enough so that people understand why whats being done is being done. Thats an excellent question. I think the boxes, the area we are covering is very significant and its important that we continue to maintain that more so not necessarily for the popes security but for rather the people that are coming in. We will have between one and 1. 5 million potential friends coming into our city. We will want to try to keep them as safe as we can. These perimeters will do that. By moving the cars out, thats one less threat. By opening those roads and allowing people to move freely around, i think thats a significant safety issue that i thinks important. Dr. Scott white, thanks for your perspective this afternoon. People have to have patience. We know that. Theres a lot of information to help residents and businesses get ready for the impact of the popes visit. We have compiled all of that on nbc10. Com and the nbc 10 app. Look for the section preparing for the pope. Police say a man found shot to death in camden early this morning was 18yearold brian spearman.
