Another hot day tomorrow but there is some relief in the forecast. We will talk about that coming up. Hot weather brings a spike in crime. At least nine people were shot in philadelphia overnight. I did some checking and in philadelphia, the month that saw the most murders last year was august. The Previous Year it was april and july. People are more on edge when theyre hot and sweaty. The group plans on marching to two different locations where Senior Citizens were shot last week both of them innocent bystanders. Nbc 10 spoke to one of those victims. 79yearold Lula Mae Hillman was sitting on her front step last tuesday when a gun fight broke out. She was hit by a stray bullet. Fortunately shes okay. Right now at 5 00 the search has resumed for a swimmer who went missing in the Delaware River yesterday. Richardson disappeared while in the water at bristol wharf in bucks county. Witnesses told us they heard his cries for help. His aunt tells us divers returned to the scene today. Officials suspended the search yesterday because of dangerous currents. Police have identified another man who disappeared while swimming across the Delaware River yesterday in burlington county. Crews recovered the 26yearolds body last night. He was the father of two young children. Police say scott and his friends were trying to swim across the river to Burlington Island last night. There is an abandoned Amusement Park there but witnesses say scott was having trouble staying afloat and went under water. Several people on the shore jumped in to try to save him but could not. What started as a traffic stop ended with a Police Officer shooting two teenagers in burks county over the weekend. It started when a reading Police Officer tried to pull over a car last night but the driver didnt stop. The officers chased the suspect to highland avenue. The 17yearold driver got trapped on a dead end street and thats when police say he rammed the patrol car twice. The officer opened fire wounding the driver and another teenager inside the car. This is an Ongoing Investigation. There may be more charges filed in the future but at this point, its an Ongoing Investigation by the Central Berks Police department and the district attorneys office. The teenaged driver now faces weapons charges after police found a stolen gun inside the car. Both teenagers are expected to be okay. Back in philadelphia a sting operation in kensington nets 68 arrests. Investigators nabbed 19 drug dealers and 49 buyers over a twoday period last week. Almost a buyers were from the suburb. Crack and cocaine was seized. Turning to the budget battle pennsylvania has gone 19 days and counting without a new budget. Nbc 10 at the Montgomery County courthouse this afternoon where state legislators called on the governor to make concessions on the budget. They say hes acting like a bully instead of working toward a solution and they want him to back down on tax hikes. A request to increase taxes at historic levels ignores those who have to pick up the tab. His proposal increases taxes on every single income level. We must say no. The Governors Office released a statement in response saying these lawmakers pretend to support education funding, and forcing Oil Companies to pay their fair share when theyre in the philadelphia area but when theyre in harrisburg they do the opposite. Now to the latest in the corruption trial for new jersey senator bob menendez. Today the senators lawyers asked a federal judge to throw out the case against menendez. They argue the government improperly showed evidence to a grand jury that should have been offlimits. Prosecutors charged menendez in april with accepting gifts and bribes from a florida doctor in exchange for political favors. Senator menendez says he and the doctor have been friends for years and he did nothing illegal. The trial for menendez is set for october. Get this. Septa says it will try again after its first attempt to sell Regional Rail pope passes crashed the website. The passes for the papal visit went on sale at 9 00 but septa says it immediately started getting calls and social media messages that the website wasnt letting customers buy those passes. I couldnt find anyplace where you could actually make a purchase. There was nothing on my screen that you could click on. We tested 900,000 visits to the site and 1700 Transactions Per Second and things worked well over the weekend. This morning, however, we were overwhelmed. A spokesman for the family of Mohammad Youssuf abdulazeez says the kuwaitborn man was treated by a child psychiatrist for depression when he was about 12 years old. The Spokesman Says the 24yearold also fought drug and alcohol abuse and spent time in jordan last year to get clean. Abdulazeez was killed in a shootout with police last thursday after opening fire at two military sites in chattanooga. Four marines and one navy officer died in the attack. While the shooters motive is still unclear, this attack has sparked more concerns about homegrown terrorism. For philadelphias top fbi agent, the threat is nothing new. As he gets ready to step down hes talking with nbc 10 about some of the plots he helped prevent. Nbc 10s Mitch Blacher joins us with his story. Reporter this is a rare glimpse into the fbi world. The special agent in charge was remarkably candid as he described his 29 year career. Right now i believe for me its one of the scariest times in recent history on terrorism. Reporter his 29 years fighting crime and preventing terror attacks wont help decode the encrypted messages terror organizations are now using. That is the biggest thing that keeps me up at night. The sea breeze is keeping the shore cooler than most parts of the region but before the breeze kicked in conditions along the coast were oppressive even dangerous. Rescuers wheeled this man in an ambulance in ocean city this afternoon. Authorities say he appeared to be suffering from heat exhaustion after spending time on the beach. Officials say at least five beach goers have needed treatment for heat exhaustion in the past couple days alone. They are usually some of our older folks. They may have a condition or two that may lend itself to that. If you have any kind of condition, you really should probably stay more like inside in the air conditioning. New information tonight about the man police are talking to about the murder of a recent drexel graduate. Charges are now filed but they are not murder charges. Jasmine wright was found strangled inside her apartment in West Philadelphia last thursday. Tonight, police are holding a person of interest on a burglary charge. Thats after they say witnesses placed him in the victims Apartment Building when he wasnt allowed to be there. The man was fired from his job as a Maintenance Worker in the building one week before the murder. Come to your tv here and take a look at these three people. They are accused of carjacking and robbing a guy in east falls. On june 30th. The woman in this video on the right side set up the victim telling him to meet her at 70th and broad street. Thats when the two men allegedly showed up with guns and beat the victim and stole his car. They were last seen at a convenience store. Former Philadelphia Union boss Joseph Dougherty was sentenced to more than 19 years in prison today. He was convicted of overseeing violent tactics to get jobs for Union Members. A judge also ordered dougherty to pay more than a half Million Dollars restitution. Prosecutors say he encouraged the violence vandalism and intimidation to get construction jobs for members of iron workers local 401. Nearly a dozen Union Members pleaded guilty in this case and several testified against dougherty. It was a fourmonth wiretap investigation. They really worked very hard to bring this case to successful conclusion. Any prosecutor would tell you if i have testified, i win. Doughertys attorney plans to appeal both the convictions and the sentence. The number of cancer deaths in delaware has substantially declined over the past decade according to a new report by the Delaware Division of public health. Heres a look at some of the reports findings. There has been a nearly 25 decline in female Breast Cancer deaths. When it comes to fighting Colorectal Cancer delawares greatest improvements were among the africanamerican population but Health Experts say more work needs to be done to fight lung cancer which accounted for about 30 of cancer deaths between 2007 and 2011. The speed limit on parts of pennsylvania turnpike could increase but it will be at least a year before that happens. State officials are analyzing data from studies on several other state highways where speeds were increased from 65 to 70 miles an hour. A pilot zone study found fewer crashes after speed limits went up. Right now, there is no specific date set for a decision on the matter. South jersey lawmakers want to free Stockton University from conflicting land regulations at the former showboat casino. There are conflicting legal restrictions about how the property can be used which is preventing the school from selling the site or converting it to classroom space. This new proposed legislation would make the land restrictions unenforceable. A judge ruled last week that stockton can try to find another buyer. A 3yearold girl is dead and two others hurt after getting hit by a mail truck while trying to cross a new jersey street today. Police say a woman was walking with her two grandchildren t 2yearold along with a 4yearold, when the truck struck them around 10 00 this morning in elizabeth, union county. Witnesses say the truck sent the 2yearold flying into the air. She was pronounced dead later. The grandmother and 4yearold child were taken to the hospital. No charges have been filed and the crash is under investigation. To this now. Hundreds of volunteer landscapers teamed up to pay tribute to the fallen at Arlington National cemetery today. Take a look at them. They took part in an annual day of service sponsored by the nations landscape and lawn care industry. They are wearing reflective jackets, volunteers. They worked to beautify the cemetery by mulching pruning and planting new shrubs. Michael livingston is a tree specialist from the king of prussia area. He and his team installed a lighting Protection System on that large tree there. It will strike the tree and it could be very detrimental to the tree could end up killing it. Arlington National Cemetery is the final resting place for more than 400,000 active duty Service Members, veterans and their families. Free Shuttle Service to Veterans Administration Health Care Facilities began today for vets in Montgomery County. The shuttles include service to facilities in horsham, spring city and coatesville, chester county. Vets can bring one caregiver with them and must be currently enrolled in the v. A. Health care system. Today senator john mccain responded to the controversial comments donald trump made about his war record on saturday. We are still talking about a first alert weather day going to go on until about 8 00 tonight. Temperatures are still going to be feeling close to 100 degrees until then. Still dangerous heat and we are looking at temperatures in the 90s. Tomorrow, another hot day. Heres a live look outside. Cape may right along the shore. You would think you could go to the shore for relief and in some areas, you can. They are in about the mid 80s. But areas close to cape may like wildwood, for example, temperatures there 88 degrees. Feels more like 95 when you factor in the humidity. Really, even along the shore, we still have pretty high temperatures. Mount pocono little relief there, 84 degrees. Thats what it feels like. This is what it feels like outside when you factor in the humidity. Feels like 98 degrees in philadelphia 99 in bensalem 101 in millville, 100 in dover, 100 degrees in Atlantic City, 98 degrees in wilmington. We still have that excessive heat warning out from New Castle County up to Mercer County until 8 00 tonight. We expect temperatures to keep feeling around 100 degrees. The area surrounding this area and much of delaware that goes until 8 00 tonight as well. It will stay hot and humid the next few hours. Radar is mostly dry. One shower we have been watching around Rehoboth Beach in delaware, this shower slowly moving offshore. More rain trying to develop around Rehoboth Beach. We also have the flash Flood Warning near Fenwick Island in the southern part of Sussex County until 7 00. Earlier we had one heavy shower so minor flooding was reported there. Most of the area now is dry. Future weather is trying to show a few isolated showers or a couple isolated thunderstorms later on this evening but i think we will mostly be staying warm and humid. Overnight we stay very humid and warm. Tomorrow afternoon, not as humid but still hot. We are talking about temperatures still in the 90s tomorrow. Then we could have showers or thunderstorms pass through tomorrow evening and this could pretty much move out of the area tomorrow night. Thats when we finally see relief. So after tomorrow we will start to get that better relief as we go into wednesday and by relief we mean lower temperatures about ten degrees warmer from tuesday to wednesday. Aside from that the humidity will drop so that will make it feel nicer. Tonight, mostly clear, warm and humid, 78 for the low in philadelphia. 68 Degrees North and west. Definitely another warm start tomorrow morning. Tomorrow afternoon, it will still be hot, just not as humid. Temperatures still about the mid to low 90s, isolated thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon. Wednesday, thats when we finally get the relief. It will be dry wednesday, thursday, friday even going into saturday but the big difference will be the big drop in temperatures into the mid 80s and the low humidity. That will make it feel a lot more comfortable. We are done with the 90 degree heat come wednesday but as we go into the end of the weekend, that looks like the next chance for thunderstorms after tomorrow afternoon. Looks like we should remain mostly dry. Neighborhood Grocery Stores are harder to find and now smaller chains are even struggling to survive. The local stores that will soon be going out of business. Reporter the once prosperous Supermarket Chain declared bankruptcy for the second time in five years, citing competition and a weak economy. Consumers are changing not only what they buy and how they eat but how they are buying it. So some of it is being done online or with delivery service. There is a lot of competition with health foods and trader joes and their prices are a little steep but they are convenient and they are quality. Thats for sure.
