So northbound from 55 up towards the walt whitman bridge still seeing an easy drive time. 61 Miles Per Hour are the average speeds headed toward the walt whitman bridge. No problems for the walt and the tacony palmyra. As for the ben, were still dealing with the ongoing construction where two righthand lanes are blocked heading westbound into philadelphia. Vai . The kind of heat that were experiencing right now could certainly be dangerous later on today for the more vulnerable groups, the elderly, disabled just looking at the peco building here in center city you can see its in the low 80s at this point. But some of the people that weve been talking with say they are trying to deal with the heat the best they can. Some will tell us theyre starting to look forward to winter at this point. And all the snow that were going to end up getting. Definitely people who are really wishing away this kind of weather. Its a good idea to bring extra water with you as you head out the door this morning. Some of the fol c of course do have to work in this kind of heat especially construction workers but you do need to be extra careful. Wear lightcolored clothing as well. Weve just Learned Police are investigating another shooting in philadelphia. This one on hadfield street in kingsessing. Which brings the total number of victims shot overnight to eight. Jesse gary is live at Police Headquarters. Jesse, you have new information about another case right . Tell us about that. Within the last hour family members of a 21yearold that was murdered overnight arrived here at Philadelphia Police headquarters. This is new video of those family members as they headed in to talk to homicide detectives and provide new information that could help catch the shooter. They identify the only person killed in a spate of violence overnight. He was shot three times in the face in the feltonville section of the city. Dozens of people called 911. His father chased after the shooter who fired at least three more times at the pursuing dad but missed him. Investigators say several spent shell casings were found at the scene. Theres more potential evidence that could lead to the shooters capture. Fortunately in the area we found several businesses with cameras. So hopefully these cameras roared something that can help us with our investigation. The suspect is wearing all black clothing. He jumped in a black toyota and sped away from 4th street headed south, if anybody has seen that vehicle or knows anything about the shooting youre asked to call philadelphia homicide detectives. The fire broke out early yesterday in an apartment and retail site under construction on jup per street near snyder. A witness told police before the fire started he saw two men near the building. He said one of them went into the building and then came running out just minutes before an explosion. And today the Lehigh County mother charged with killing her toddler after he was thrown off a bridge is due in court. Police arrested 19yearold perry back in may. Investigators say she slewer this 20monthold son off the hamilton street bridge and jumped in herself. Rescue crews saved perry but could not revive her son. A judge set up a Court Hearing tomorrow for the heavy equipment operator charged in connection with the deadly Market Street collapse. Shawn benschop could be spared a life sentence if he pleads guilty. Prosecutors say benschop was under the influence of marijuana and prescription pain killers while operating an excavateor at the time of the collapse. Six people died more than a dozen others hurt. Were at 80 degrees in mt. Holly, 79 in wildwood. Temperatures in reading at 74 degrees, mid70s to start in allentown. Thats actually a brisk start to the morning in the poconos with temperatures at 69 degrees. Your city planner shows as you go throughout today, by the time you head out for lunch well be in the 90s. The feelslike temperature for both of these times, closer to the high 90s, even the triple digits, especially as we head into the afternoon. No idea yet what led up to the shooting. The young man, the 19yearold, is in stable condition. No arrests at this time. This has been an extremely violent night and Early Morning in philadelphia. We have counted at this point, six separate shootings in neighborhoods spanning from kingsessing to olney, frankford, and feltonville. A 21yearold man was shot in the face and killed. One fatality seven other victims of shootings overnight in philadelphia. The big headline were following, no arrests in any of these shootings. Police have a lot of work cut out for them. Theres a local push for justice this morning surrounding the illinois woman found hanging in a jail cell last week. Nbc 10 was at Mother Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in society hill yesterday. Sandra bland was found hanging three days after a traffic stop turned into a confrontation. She was argumentative, uncooperative and charged with assault, police say. A family attorney said hes seen dashcam video. He wants to know why bland was even asked to get out of her car. He asked her to put out a cigarette. She said why do i have to put out a cigarette when im in my own car . That seemed to irritate him to the point where he said, get out of the car. This is cell phone video. A state trooper who stopped bland is now on administrative leave. Blands family has ordered an independent autopsy to see how she died. They insist she did not hang herself. Investigators into nevada are looking into what caused a small plane to crash yesterday, just three miles into its journey. The fourseater landed in a desert 15 miles outside of las vegas. One of the victims with currently in critical conditions. No one on the ground was hurt. And we have new video this morning showing an arson suspect lighting an lgbt mural on fire in san francisco. Surveillance video shows the man approaching the building before dousing a portion of it with what appears to be lighter fluid. Within seconds, the mural was on fire. So that is an uncomfortable and muggy start to the morning. Our feelslike temperature in wilmington at 85 same thing in northeast philly and mt. Holly, Atlantic City airport at 87. Thats the feelslike temperature. Areas not as affected include the poconos stretching down into the Lehigh Valley where were seeing temperatures at 75 degrees. Thats the actual temperature in allentown. Not much of an increase there even when you factor in the humidity. Our actual temperature in philadelphia is 82. Actual temperature in wilmington is 80 degrees and similar conditions right along the shore. As we head into the rest of the afternoon, our feelslike temperature will push into the triple digits and most of the region is under either an excessive heat warning in the pink or heat advisory in the orange and basically what both of those things means is that we are going to see dangerous heat. By dangerous it means you could fall susceptible to heatrelated illnesses. Drink plenty of water. The wakeup temperatures as we go into the late morning hours, shows the temperatures will push into the low 90s by the time you head out for lunch, it will be a hot lunch time. Maybe stay inside. Normally that wouldnt be too bad but you factor in the humidity, its not a good situation, very soupy out here right now. You see the people working out. I spoke to a couple of them within the last 30 minutes, they tell me if they didnt get this workout in right now, they wouldnt be coming out later on. Its really hot. How are you getting through it . Running through it. 5 30 i figured it wouldnt be so hot. Its pretty hot. I was met with a blast of heat and thought about turning around because working out in this weather is painful and probably not completely safe for everybody. That is definitely true especially those who are elderly or disabled. The folks who are stuck in their homes. You definitely want to check in on your friends, neighbors, family members, relatives. Make sure they are okay especially if they do not have air conditioning. Some of the warning signs of heat stress and heat stroke higher body temperature, changes in sweating, nausea vomiting and changes in mental state. If you see any of those signs or exhibit any of those signs on your own, you do want to get help right away. There will be some assist and out there, of course for the heat and for those who need it. Last night crews found the body of a man who disappeared while swimming across the Delaware River to burlington island. Theres an abandoned Amusement Park there. The vick was with two other people when he began to struggle in the water. Several people on the shore jumped in to try to save him but couldnt. He went down once came back up and went down a second time. Jumped in the water, threw life preservers and the one gentleman that jumped in actually had his hands on him, he said. Really . He just went in. He went under. Right across the river from that spot a virginia man apparently drown. Marquis richardson was swimming at bristol wharf in bucks county when he disappear. Officials suspend a search for him because of dangerous currents. On saturday a man drown in the Delaware River in southeastern pennsylvania. Philadelphia Police Officers are investigating eight shootings from overnight. A man was shot in the face on North Lawrence street. The gunman also fired shots at the mans father before getting away. Investigators are checking security cameras in the area. In the fern rock section, a gunshot victim ran to his sisters place of work for help. This happened around 11 00 last night on olney avenue. Police say someone shot the man in the leg. He ran to a nearby Dunkin Donuts where his sister works and called for help. Police are look for the gunman in that shooting as well. . The black horse pike is a sticky drive so as it is one to two lanes running the whole way. Around east brown road we have an overturned vehicle with Police Activity. Roads blocked off at this point. There will be a lot of traffic around the local area. 295 is doing okay at this time. If you want to avoid the highway, take the white horse pike or route 30 to get through the area. You may see delays if youre heading that direction. On the schuylkill expressway around the boulevard were seeing jams on the westbound side. The westbound schuylkill is whats getting hit first, 20 minutes if youre headed westbound from the vine street expressway up towards the blue route. No idea what the victim is or what his condition is at this point. We know the victim was taken to Presbyterian Hospital though no condition, no idea who the gunman is. Police are looking in that case. This is the ninth person wounded by gunfire in philadelphia in the past seven hours or so in seven separate shootings. The neighborhoods ranging from feltonville, fern rock, frankford frankford, olney kingsessing. All young men in the overarcing headline here no arrest in either of these shootings. A 21yearold man died in one shooting. The old Police Legend about the gun violence on the rise as the temperature rises in the summer. That appears to be holding true in a very violent night across the city. Now were confirming a nyn, seventh shooting here and nine victims total. Turning now to the terror in tennessee, five families are preparing for funerals after last weeks attack in chattanooga. State and local leaders are asking what can be done to prevent future attacks. Tennessees governor has ordered a security review of military facilities in his state to see whether some military personnel can be armed to protect themselves. But governors of at least half a dozen states are already working to arm some of their National Guard troops. Were close to 70 in the poconos, 357 in allentown, 77 in most of the suburbs. Throughout the philadelphia area in the 80s. 80 degrees in millville and dover and 81 at the Atlantic City airport.
