Look at the heavy rainfall and lots of lightning just to the west of glassboro, glassboro seeing the heavy rainfall is moving towards gloucester right now and into camden county. This particular area of storms is reaching into south philadelphia producing heavy rain. Got some lightning there as well. Part of why weve issued a first alert weather day fmr today. Localized flooding is possible because of the heavy downpours and the threat of that will continue this afternoon. Weve already seen some severe thunderstorms this morning with the potentially damaging winds bringing down tree limbs and power lines. Cant rule that out later today either. The forecast is calling for storminess ahead. Well go through the day hour by hour when i come back in ten minutes. Lets see how this is affecting the roads this morning. Were doing a check on new jersey roads where most roads in new jersey are doing a bit better than say the schuylkill expressway parts of Montgomery County and chester conte as well. On 295 around the black horse pike we are moving through the work zone here. Its not active theft. Kctive at this point. The roadways are damp. Were start it see volume on both sides. Southbound from 38 up towards this point at the black horse pike thats what were dealing with, no real problems there. Out the door on the 42 freeway. Everything moving along just fine. 55 up toward the walt whitman bridge, you can see the rain falling in the distance. Cherry hill were watching for ongoing construction on route 07 westbound between south cornell and mcclelland. As for the rest of the area bridges we did look at the walt whitman bridge no problems there. The tacony palmyra and the Burlington Bristol is clear. Were getting numerous reports of flooding in Montgomery County because of the storms that are sweeping through our area this morning. Nbc 10s Monique Braxton is live in storm force 10 in pottstown where were getting reports of water rescues. Monique, what have you beenc seeing . Reporter we have just arrived here on scene at south and montgomery which is just off of high street in pottstown. Theres a lot of fire apparatus. We dont see rescues going on right now which doesnt mean it did not happen. Were at what looks like the bartenders and officials. Its a Historic Building that does border the schuylkill river. Were trying to get around to show you whats gone on. We are behind the storm at this point. The deluge of rain has subsided some but it is still raining in this area. Getting to this part of town it took us a little bit longer. As you might imagine, the streets are blocked with fire hoses as well as other fire apparatus. A Philadelphia Police officer who was shot last year is now accused of trying to pin the shooting on his wife also a Police Officer. Police arrested officer robert penn yesterday on charges of making false reports and conspiracy. Last march he was shot in the back at his home in overbrook. Authorities now say he paid his exbrotherinlaw to tell the media that his wife pulled the trigger. His wife is a lieutenant with the Philadelphia Police department. I cant see her doing Something Like that. Like i said shes a very nice person. Shes been here a while. Shes liked by nabes . Everybody likes her. George spencer talking to the neighbors there. A month after the shooting, penns wife was assaulted outside the home. Both the assault and the shooting remain unsolved. The Police Commissioner suspended officer penn with the intent to dismiss. We have new information surrounding a child luring incident in ocean county. Here is a sketch of a man who Barnegat Township police say they want to talk to. The Organization Says he will talk about civil rights challenges currently facing the nation. Yesterday, of course the convention heard from president obama. The president got a rousing response with the unfair treatment of criminal suspects both inside and outside prison walls. We should not be tolerating Gang Activity in prison. Heavy rainfall and lots of lightning, not just in philadelphia. Were looking at it move through upper bucks county and south jersey. Thats where heavy rainfall has fired up in just the last hour. This Lightning Storm is moving off to the northeast at about 22 miles an hour. Its quickly moving through gloucester, heading towards cherry hill this morning with lots of lightning. This prompted a Flash Flood Warning that includes cherry hill. Mt. Laurel, ashland with this, those heavy showers moving through the area and into philadelphia. Look at the storms weve already been through that are still coming down. In upper bucks county and into the Lehigh Valley those heavy showers could produce a Flood Warning. Now the Flood Warning is extended into gloucester camden and parts of Burlington County because of the storms moving through. A Flash Flood Warning in effect in new jersey until 9 30. The Flash Flood Warnings in effect in pennsylvania are in effect until 8 30. It even though the heavy rainfall may taper off in your area it doesnt mean the flash flood threat has been erased. 9 00, future weather, hour by hour. Showing more storms. Heavy rainfall is heavier just across the delaware into new jersey. Pennsylvania has seen heavy rainfall and Flash Flood Warnings are up for much of the area. Part of why it is a first alert weather day. Heavy downpours leads to flash flooding in some areas. Weve had reports of flooding. It is flooding that could occur even later this morning as it takes some time for that rain to run off and come together. Damaging winds still a potential of strong storms. We saw them first thing this morning roll through chester and into delaware counties. Right now look at the heavy rain. The thunderstorm that is producing quite a bit of lightning. Its moving out of Gloucester County and into camden county. It will be heading into Burlington County. You can see this large area thats the Flash Flood Warning because of these storms which are now moving to the northeast at about 20 miles an hour. Cherry hill is just on the edge of getting some of the heavier rainfall. And the slight rainfall in evesham township. Its starting to taper off in allentown. Lower Lehigh County and bucks county, you can see spots of heavy rainfall, thunder and lightning as well. The heaviest rainfall is in eastern berks county. In the last four hours, more than 3 1 2 inches of rain. These heavy downpours in bucks county producing close to 2 inches of rain in some spots. Watch out for flooded waters. Dont drive into flooded streets. Youve heard it before. It always seems that somebody avoids that advice and gets stranded, needs to be rescued. Showers and thunderstorms, wont be an all day affair but the threat will be around all day. Well be tracking storms into the Late Afternoon hours. This evening they clear out. Thats going to clear the way for much nicer weather thursday and friday as the humidity comes down. Both days in the middle 80s with low humidity. Look at the heat, on the way for the weekend. 90 on saturday then into the lower 90s sunday and monday with a chance of storms through tuesday. Two key points to reiterate, wait until the storm has passed and dont drive into water when you cant see how deep it is, thinking ill just make it through this intersection. We also are dealing with several reports of road obstructions throughout the airy. One in Upper ProvidenceSecond Avenue and vaughn road and another one in lower merion on riders ferry road and monument road. You can see rain actively falling. Thats just in terms of volume. That doesnt mean that doesnt include ponding and roadways having on instructions or different problems on them like that. You still want to give yourself extra time from route 30 to the schuylkill give yourself an extra 10. Well check in with the Philadelphia International airport and mass transit coming up in a few minutes. A texas Police Officer pulled over a woman who was talking on her cell phone. He actually ended up saving her life. This is newly released video of that incident. The woman was choking on food and trying to use the phone to call 911. The officer got her out of her car and performed the heimlich maneuver. Youve got to be kidding me the driver said. Look at this talking about those people on the bicycle there. This is philadelphia reminding users of its Bike Share Program to follow the rules of the road. This message came after a driver posted video of two people biking on the vine street expressway. That is illegal. They were using the citys new indigo Bike Share Program which was launched earlier this year. They may not have been aware. They may have gotten on the expressway by mistake there. Definitely a scary situation. Up close and personal. It took nearly ten years and 3 billion miles but this morning, nasa says it was well worth the wait. The pictures of pluto that some thought we would never see. And the solar paparazzi found pluto. Another giant leap for mankind. Nasa says its mission to fly by pluto was a success. This is the first closeup image of icy pluto which is now classified as a dwarf planet. The team tracking the probe for 9 1 2 years and 3 billion miles couldnt have been happier. Were in lock with telemetry with the spacecraft. Our spacecraft did exactly what it was supposed to have. This is amazing something that far away we can send something to and explore. How about that . Unless theres a technical problem or a collision, the spacecraft is expected to send back photos and data to earth for the next 15 years. You cant see pluto from here.
