After this line passes we could see more just like it throughout the day. Heres what it looks like outside because of that heavy rain parts of the area seeing downpours and lightning strikes. That will wake you up this morning. You want to give yourself extra time if youre leaving the house, especially around towamencin, norristown. This rain is falling heavy and fast. Hes standing by now with a look at whos getting hit now. This is a line of storms that has seen very heavy not only rainfall but damaging winds. You can see this area right in the philadelphia area including south philadelphia intol, extreme southern Montgomery County and much of Delaware County and eastern chester county. Thats a severe thunderstorm warning. Thats for damaging winds, winds of more than 60 miles an hour. This larger box that includes philadelphia, all of Montgomery County and extends into the northwest into berks county and to extreme southern Lehigh County and a sliver of bucks county. Heavy rainfall is coming with this line of storms. Those storms are on the move. Theyre heading to the northeast at 25 miles an hour. Wait them out, if youre getting ready to head out the door right now. Heavy downpours will be heavy to start with. It will taper off but that rain has to go somewhere. That cowl be the flash flooding that will be affecting some areas during the Morning Hours. Localized flooding even a potential thisgi4a afternoon for more storms. Weve already seen the threat of damaging winds this morning. Thats going to continue during the day. So a stormy day certainly to start with but the possibility of showers and thunderstorms will stay with us through the morning and into the afternoon. Well take a look at the hourbyhour future weather when i come back in ten minutes to show you when the storms are likely to pop up in your area. Lets take a look at how the roads are faring. First alert traffic reporter jessica boyington. You can see parts of chester county, Montgomery Countyn ps severely reduced visibility throughout the area. When a vehicle goes by and the light shines up on the camera you can see how poor the visibility is. Were on 202, northbound southbound right in here. Every time a vehicle goes by you can see how the visibility is reduced. Also considering it is so early, theres no sun out as well. Thats a combination effect there. Schuylkill expressway drive times, everything is still moving along just fine. Rain starting to fall in some areas. Eastbound or westbound, a 12minute trip or under. Thats not affecting the drive time there. Thats not affecting the blue route or schuylkill expressway. As for the Philadelphia International airport, currently no weather related delays. Jessica, thanks. 4 34 now. Heres what else were following this morning. An elderly woman was shot while sitting on her front porch. This morning shes in a philadelphia hospital after being hit by a stray bullet. Nbc 10s matt delucia is live outside einstein medical center. How is this woman doing, first off . Reporter well, chris, that 79yearold woman is stable here at einstein. All she was doing was inmooding her own business on her front porch when the bullets came in her direction. Philadelphia police tell us this happened just after 10 30 on the 2800 block of north 25th street. The woman was shot once in the right leg while sitting on the porch with her son. There were at least two shots fired that they know of. By whom that is the question this morning. The detectives have been looking for cameras in the area theyve also been talking with witnesses. They were sitting on the front porch, enjoying the weather when at least two shots rang out. We found two spent shell casings from a semiautomatic weapon around 50 feet north from where the victim was when she was shot. Reporter the victim was conscious and talking with Police Investigator as she was being taken to the hospital. This is believed to be a case of stray bull hes being fired on the street and hitting this woman, unfortunately. She is stable here at einstein. Well continue following this story. Last week a 6yearold boy was shot in grays ferry while playing basketball. On may 30th a 13yearold girl hit by a stray bullet. She survived but no one was arrested. A Philadelphia Police officer who was shot in his home last year is now facing charges in the case. Police arrested officer robert penn yesterday on charges that he made false reports. Penn is accused of trying to frame his wife who, by the way, is a police lieutenant. He paid his exbrotherinlaw to spread rumors that his wife pulled the trigger. Heres a Liquor Store Robbery that police say looks like a family affair. Investigators say this woman was caught on camera using her roomy skirt to steal hundreds of dollars worth of liquor from a store in burlington last week. Look at the guy grabbing the stuff from the top shelf. The store owner says churn who came in with the man and woman distracted the employees by asking them questions while the man and woman stole more than 300 worth of booze. Police have no suspects right now. Happening today, the Naacp National convention in philadelphia wraps up with a keynote address from former president bill clinton. A stormy start this morning, heavy downpours in the area and we are tracking this storm system hour by hour this morning. The heaviest rainfall some of it is moving through philadelphia at this hour. You can see the heavy rainfall just glancing by philadelphia, moving out of Delaware County and heading out of chester county. Very heavy rainfall, falling at a rate of almost 3 inches an hour. A flood warning, a Flash Flood Warning is in effect very heavy, shortlived downpours producing potentially some flooding rains moving through Montgomery County and quickly moving towards bucks county this morning. The heaviest rain now is in upper Montgomery County, passing by new hanover, approaching the blue route very quickly. Heavy downpours in skipak. They are moving to the northeast at 25 miles an hour. This heavy rain could produce localized flooding it may not be immediate. The rain is falling over a large area. As it comes together and heads to the streams and rivers heads to the lowlying roads, thats where we could see flooding. Because it tapers off quickly, doesnt mean the flood threat will subside. The potential for flash flooding is in effect until 8 30 this morning for this area. That could be expanded as it heads into bucks county with the heavy rainfall. To the west the rain not as heavy but its still coming down for much of pennsylvania. Now were seeing thunderstorm activity moving through eastern New Castle County and delaware and into salem county new jersey. Isolated downpours there. And the possibility of more storms during the day, looks likely. The hourbyhour future weather shows the wet weather at 6 00 this morning. The showers and thunderstorms still a possibility at 8 00 this morning. And then a larger area of lighter rainfall is possible at 9 00 but as we go into the later Morning Hours and even into the afternoon, theres another line that looks like its set to develop for areas north and west. That could bring more strong storms as we head into the afternoon hours, 3 00 this afternoon, that may be messing with the evening commute. The forecast for today is calling for a stormy one. Thats going to limit the temperatures to the upper 70s and low 80s. Wont be an allday rainfall but the possibility of heavy downpours with showers and thunderstorms will also extend into new jersey and to delaware too, dover and vineland just low 80s this afternoon. A stormy start this morning for westchester, drexel hill and philadelphia. Not an allday rainfall but a good possibility youll be able to use your umbrella more than once this morning. Wait out these storms this morning. Its a first alert weather day. The threat of flooding with these storms and damaging winds as they move through the area its not worth the risk of beginning out until after they move through and then be on the lookout for those areas of localized flooding. Rain actively falling in the area as well. A nineminute trip. No problems on 422 westbound. Out in Montgomery County we also are watching an accident scene on main street. As for mass transit, currently no problems or delays. Take new jersey transit, septa or the patco speed line. Jail break caught on camera. Were on 76 west as you mentioned. We first started seeing lightning just before 4 00. Then a deluge of rain arrived about 15 minutes ago. The schuylkill isnt bad. There have been issues in the past with flooding but right now, its not raining really hard where we are as we approach the conshi curve. Tractortrailers are coming towards us on the eastbound lane. Now were running into a deluge again. This is what motorists are going to encounter if they head out right now. You you may run into heavy rain then it may be subsided and then you may run into heavy rain again. You cant tell everybody enough to exercise caution. Were tracking showers and thunderstorms, Severe Weather this morning. Look at the lightning show. This is the view from here at the nbc 10 studios. Storms are racing through the area with very heavy rainfall. Even more lightning in upper Montgomery County into berks county this morning. These storms are now moving into bucks county as well. And the leading edge has very heavy rainfall. Weve been seeing rain rates ranging from close to three inches per hour to more than five inches per hour. Its right on the border of that heavy rainfall. Its exiting the heavy rainfall in norristown. South philadelphia is getting some of the heavy rain. Northampton, youre in the path of these storms which are moving to the northeast at 25 miles an hour. And a flood warning, a Flash Flood Warning is in effect for those areas likely to be extended into bucks county this morning as the storms are making big progress. Look at the lightning moving through upper montgomery and into bucks county hilltown seeing heavy rainfall and richland wont be long before that heavy rain moves into your area. Heres the threat, hour by hour through the day at 7 00 this morning, those storms are still a possibility for much of the area and its not just this morning as we go through the late Morning Hours, not everybody is beginning to be seeing the heavy rain at one time. Theres still a possibility of heavy downpours with strong thunderstorms. We could see some localized flooding at 11 00 in the morning. Look at the storms moving into delaware at that hour and the threat this afternoon stays with it. That will keep temperatures cooler today. The potential for flooding rains is the problem. Keep an eye on the sky and an ear to the watches and warnings we put out. This is why its a first alert day here at nbc 10. Showers, thunderstorms, heavy downpours could produce localized flooding in the area. Temperatures in the 80s today. The good news is its clearing out for tomorrow. The storms will be gone theyll move out overnight and it will be much less humid for thursday and friday. But full weather for the end of the workweek. It gets hot this weekend with a chance of more storms starting saturday. 4 52. We saw a moment ago from Monique Braxtons shot there, youll want to take it easy before heading out this morning. Jessica boyington is watching all of her cameras. Tracy and chris, im getting firsthand accounts from nbc employees making their way into the station right now. On the schuylkill expressway that the flooding is very actually vicious when youre headed eastbound especially. You can see the drive time is okay still, 14minute trip from the blue route up toward the vine street expressway. These are our cameras around route 1. If youre headed eastbound this is westbound. This is eastbound right in here headed toward the center city area. Its moving along and not a lot of volume in the area the roadways are obviously wet. You can see if you look closely the water spraying out from underneath the cars. Those drive times are okay right now. Thats in terms of volume. You dont want to Pay Attention to that. You want to give yourself an extra 10 to 15 minutes before you head out the door. Throughout delaware everything is moving along fine there as well. 295, up towards 495, no problems. This is not the worst of it this hahp hc morning. The heaviest rainfall has prompted a Flash Flood Warning that you whiches philadelphia.
