A Watkinsville woman was arrested Monday in connection with a wrong-way crash that killed a 13-year-old girl early this year on the Athens Perimeter.
Molly Anne Tully, 26, was charged by the Georgia State Patrol with first-degree vehicular homicide, DUI, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm or knife during a felony.
Tully was driving the wrong way on the bypass when she caused the Jan. 30 crash, according to the patrol. Hilsman Middle School student Kayla Smith, 13, was killed.
The wreck occurred shortly before 11 p.m. on the perimeter near Mitchell Bridge Road, according to the patrol. Prior to the wreck, Athens-Clarke police broadcast a warning about a wrong-way driver on the perimeter and an Oconee County sheriff’s deputy reported he spotted the car near Epps Bridge Parkway.
