The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is increasing the capacity of waste processing at the Makarpura landfill site near the national highway. The waste-to-energy project, which was supposed to generate power using mass incineration, has failed to kick off. The project, which was scheduled to be completed in March 2024, has faced delays. The increasing mound of garbage at the site poses a threat to the nearby Vishwamitri river and high-tension electricity lines. The VMC has issued a notice to the contractor responsible for the project and has increased the site's capacity to 2,500 tonne per day.
