MASSILLON – When Whittier Elementary students return to school in the fall, they will be greeted by a new face.
Marcus Simpson was named the school's new principal Wednesday during the Board of Education's monthly meeting.
Simpson, a 1999 Washington High grad, replaces Matt Plybon, who will be moving to the middle school.
He once walked the halls of the elementary school as a student.
Since 2011, Simpson has served as assistant principal at Massillon Intermediate School.
He began his career in education at Massillon Middle School teaching seventh-grade math before moving into the administrative role.
"I am excited, blessed and honored to be able to serve as the principal of Whittier Elementary,” Simpson said. “I love the city of Massillon and I am excited to continue my career in this great school district.”
