The 26-year-old has maintained a clean record off the field since then and, after going through their own process, Warriors hierarchy were confident in the character they have recruited to the club.
"I made Mark very aware of exactly what we’re talking about and he’s extremely comfortable, as is (chairman) Rob Croot," George said.
"They were fully briefed and fully understood the situation and we are all very comfortable with our decision after the process we adopted.
"We understand what happened in the past, absolutely, and don’t condone it. But the NRL, some years ago, deemed Matt a fit and proper person to play the game of rugby league in the NRL.
