Friday, Gov. Tim Walz and state leaders highlighted the state's new emergency rental assistance program.
RentHelpMN opened for applications last week and is aimed at helping low- and moderate-income renters get caught up on overdue rent and utility payments during the pandemic.
Minnesota received $375 million in federal funding through the stimulus bill passed in December. That funding will allow for up to 15 months of help for eligible renters.
"The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on Minnesotans in ways that reach far beyond the virus itself. Many people have fallen behind on their rent and other housing payments, and that means property owners and managers are struggling as well," Walz said. "Thanks to the hardworking public servants at Minnesota Housing, help is now available through RentHelpMN, Minnesota's emergency rental assistance program. I encourage all Minnesotans who need rental assistance to apply."
