Police say the 30yearold was driving the mini van that rear ended a parked nissan bouncing into people on the sidewalk which includes three Jersey City Police officers and also a row of cars. He says the mini van came from that direction and someone said you. Julian paulino stopped the driver from going into his corner store and stopped him the sidewalk. He then walked down the street to check on the injured officer. He says when i left the Police Officer had a broken leg. She was nervous and crying. Is that his red mini van . No. Natalie heard the crash a few minutes later she saw her 30 yearold cousin being arrested a few blocks away. At the time she didnt know the two incidents were related. Car. I dont know about him being in at all. Now, jersey city has not released the names of the three officers who were injured nor have they provided an update on the female officer who remained here at the Jersey City Medical Center but again witnesses believe that she had severe injuries to her leg. In a couple hours new york city leaders and Health Officials will hold a town hall meeting to address concerns about the deadly legionaires out break in the south bronx. Two cranes collapse on buildings injuring dozens of people. Caught on camera, another accident involving an escalator. This comes just days after a mother was killed seconds after pushing her toddler to safety. But first, in the middle of the busy Summer Travel growing concerns about safety in the skies. As drones get increasingly closer to airplanes putting passengers and crews at risk. And were going to begin this half hour with more drone scares in the skies. In the past few days there have been three sightings raising concerns that the drones could way. As it turns out, theres a simple change that could be made to prevent all of these close calls. Eyewitness News ReporterTim Fleischer is live at kennedy with details. These three latest drone strikes coming so close to jfk national security. But now some are wondering if new technology might be able to keep them in check. The drone is on the edge of the run way. The latest encounter came over night when a Shuttle America from richmond reported the first call to Traffic Controllers here at jfk alerting the pilots. This is the third time in as many days concerning veteran commercial and military pilots like jp. An aviation consultant. What were seeing is a great increasing danger with these drones that are coming closer and closer to the aircraft at higher and higher levels. The one at jfk was somewhere around 1700 feet. And within 100 feet of the aircraft, theyre getting far too close. The first two sightings came on friday. First a jet blue flight from haiti. The pilot saying it was within 100 feet of the cockpit. Later that day, a drone startled it was about 1200 feet below us. There were incidents in buffalo and long island and over. Senator Charles Schumer is in favor of using technology called geo fencing. Built into the drones software. It doesnt let them fly in certain places. Within two miles of an airport. Above 500 feet. Over the Empire State Building or the pentagon. Its cheap. It doesnt interfere with hob hobbyists. There have been 500 drone incidents since 2012 in its intelligence assessment they sadirons can become a weapon of terrorists. While many encounters are not malicious in nature they under score potential vulnerabilities that could be used by adversaries to leverage drones as part of an attack. Perhaps its a testing of someone deciding to see just how good Homeland Security is. Or how good the aircraft are at seeing and avoiding. Major retailers in new york say stop selling toy guns as part of a settlement. Retail giants including wal mart, kmart, sears and amazon will pay their share of a 300,000dollar fine to the state. The Attorney Generals Office found that more than 6400 toys were sold that violate a new york law prohibiting the sale of black, blue, silver, or aluminum toy guns. Retailers cannot good gamble with the lives of new yorkers. They cant gamble with the lives of our children by selling life like guns that make it impossible for anyone, including Police Officers to tell the difference between a toy and the real thing. New york state requires that toy guns be brightly colored. New york city goes a few steps further, manufacturers can only make guns that are white or brightly colored and have to put their company name on the side of that toy.
