Why a mother would leave her child in a hot car on a summer day right in this parking lot. We may never know exactly why she did it but the two officers deserve a lot of credit for preventing a near tragedy in the parking lot. You picture your child and you always want the best for your child. Reporter it was a mix of Police Training and parental instincts that led these officers to jump into action as the little boy cried out from the dangerously hot car. I was obviously upset. Being a mother myself. Reporter customers in the parking lot heard the little boys cries and alerted costco who told the police. Officers Richard Carrion and sonya bekier broke the window. I was surprised he was comfortable with me. There was a crowd. I have a twoyearold myself. Reporter soon after the mother came back to her car with a full cart and a second child no less. She apologized to the angry crowd, but that did little to soothe frayed nerves. Reporter make that 17 days now that Christina Valentin and her families have waited for maintenance workers to finish repairing walls damaged by leaking pipes years ago. So how long have you had this leak . Four years. Reporter they have yet to find the source of the leak, but workers ripped out the moist mold soaked walls in july 14. Two days later, christina rushed her baby daughter to the hospital where her ten month old spent ten days being treated for breathing problems. Did the doctor think it was related to this . Yes. My daughter has never had asthma. Never had problems with her lungs. Reporter the unfinished repairs have left the family without use of their kitchen for 17 days and no working shower. Plus, exposed electrical wires. This is dangerous. We are scared everyday to turn on the light. That it might spark. Reporter earlier this week, Eyewitness News reported on another Family Living in Public Housing in east harlem who has been pleading for months to get the city to make permanent repairs to a leaking sewage problem that threatens their health. Reporter last month, we reported on how a family in Public Housing had lived for a year with a crazy patchwork of tin catch basins and buckets. The tin catches the water, comes down here, flows down there, comes down across the furniture and into the bucket.
