Voting rights activists lift page from civil rights movement, launch march in Central Texas
Organizers expect “March for Democracy” to draw thousands to the Texas Capitol on Saturday, after three days of events based on Alabama’s 1965 marches from Selma to Montgomery.
Organizers said late Tuesday that they hope a four-day “March for Democracy" in Central Texas, styled on Alabama’s 1965 marches from Selma to Montgomery and ending at the Texas Capitol on Saturday, will galvanize Congress to again pass voting-rights legislation and override what they called voter suppression efforts in red states, including Texas.(Ashley Landis / Staff Photographer)
