Virtual Children’s Fishing Derby begins Friday: NE Ohio fishing report for weekend of May 7-9

The traditional drift-and-cast style of Lake Erie walleye fishing is starting to sparkle around the Western Basin, where post-spawn walleye are chasing weight-forward spinners and small spinner rigs tipped with nightcrawlers. CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Area kids will be encouraged to catch a trout or catfish in the week-long Virtual Children’s Fishing Derby hosted by the Cleveland Metroparks. The derby begins Friday, targeting all of the lakes, rivers and streams around the park system, and runs through Sunday, May 16.
