Virginia’s largest school systems vow to reopen classrooms for all by March

Two of Virginia’s largest school systems have vowed to reopen classrooms for all students by mid-March, as pressure mounts from elected officials and irate parents — many facing their 11th month of virtual learning during the coronavirus pandemic — and evidence suggests that schools can offer in-person instruction safely.
The school boards of Fairfax County Public Schools and Loudoun County Public Schools voted Tuesday evening to approve timelines that start with returning vulnerable children, including students with disabilities and English-language learners, on Feb. 16. Both plans also call for all students who select hybrid learning to begin heading into classrooms next month.
