Shea, Virginia (Ginny) Helen Johnson passed away November 3rd, 2022. Ginny is survived by daughter, Glynis (Daniel Joyce); son Andrew, daughter-in- law Jennifer Shea; and granddaughter Sidney Schultz as well as her younger brothers, John Johnson (Kerrville, TX) and Bill Johnson (Moorhead, MN) and preceded in death by her older sister, Toni Moran (Stockton, CA). Ginny was born November 11, 1939 to Vera Andreotti and William Johnson in Mount Horeb, WI. The family started in the Twin Cities, but Fort Worth, TX was the crowded, love- filled home of her youth. Smart, artistic, athletic, she was the belle of her high school - reputedly having three dates on one day. For college, she returned to the Twin Cities to attend Saint Scholastica and St Catherine (BA in mathematics) where she lived with her Johnson aunts and found happiness with extended Andreotti famiglia. After college, Ginny moved to Washington DC, where - with her husband in law-school - she created a family. They moved between DC and Minnesota, choosing Edina as home. Ginny was a super parent: pirate parties; candy laden valentine ships; Halloween costume competitions; ad hoc dance sessions; wreath decorating; sharing and teaching family recipes. She not only drove her children to numerous sporting events, she coached/managed teams, served as local reporter, and could bang the hell out of a cowbell. Her artistic talent blossomed in the Drawing and Painting MFA program at the University of Minnesota. Her dynamic abstracts and expressive watercolors are family treasures. This love of art and creativity touched many lives - as a docent at the Walker Art Center (MN) and the Corcoran & National Gallery (DC), fundraising for the DFL or Regina High School, doing paper mache for the MayDay parade, volunteering for the AIGA, helping Aquatennial Milk Carton Boat Race contestants. Virginia's self ordained notion of being a "right brain left brain casualty" defined her professional life: running punch cards in DC, directing credentials at the 1976 Democratic National Convention in NYC, marketing early auto-cad systems from Control Data, championing the Apple/Mac platform as a first generation desktop publishing design professional and trainer, and ultimately starting her own graphic design firm - Mac on the Park. Ginny loved to entertain, whether it was wine and cheese on the deck, an extreme Halloween event or a (never) simple Easter or Christmas. She was a proud member of the extended Shea clan and appreciated their love, parties and support throughout her life. The mistress of the magnificent meal, her great taste led to seven course wine- paired meals, created and judged by taste and visual delight. In celebration, Ginny's energy filled a room, dinner or even a deck. In honor of her beautiful, exuberant, delicious, creative, outspoken, laugh filled, strong minded life, an open house holiday extravaganza memorial will be held on December 3rd, 2022 from 2-6 PM.
