Vinyl album sales have hit a historic high in the United States. New Nielsen Music data shows that in the week around Thanksgiving and Black Friday, more than one-million vinyl albums were sold, the largest sales week for the format since Nielsen and MRC Data started tracking music sales in 1991.
Of course, it has a lot to do with Record Store Day’s Black Friday festivities – especially at independent record stores. Indie physical stores sales accounted for 542K of the vinyl albums sold, the second-largest week ever for indie store vinyl sales just after last year.
