Veteran Island Train Resides At Isle Of Wight Steam Railway
By Iona Stewart-Richardson
Veteran former Island Line train 483007 now has retired at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.
Originally built in 1940 for London Underground, these trains were already the oldest on the national network when they arrived on the Island in 1989.
31 years later, they finally retired from the Ryde to Shanklin line on 3 January 2021 after 80 years of service.
The train was generously donated to the Steam Railway by South Western Railway, ensuring that it will be preserved for future generations.
