Charleston hosted six days of elite-level cycling with 450 unique athletes participating in the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships. This week of cycling is broken up into three races for men and women: the Criterium, Time Trial and Road Race. Women and men in these races are placed into gendered classes by age: juniors, under 23 and the elite. Assessing the road course and how Charleston put on the event are: William Smith and Tim Brady. Under-23 cyclist Kayla Davis of Los Angeles, California is a member of Team Serious Cycling. Davis rode in last year's USA Cycling Pro Road Championships in Knoxville, Tennessee as well as this week's road race in Charleston. She finished third Sunday in the U23 women's road race. Elite men's cyclist Ricky Arnopol of Denver, Colorado is a member of Team Project Echelon. He also rode in last year's Knoxville championships as well as this past week's criterium and road race in Charleston. Arnopol and Davis talk about this year's race.
