Taipei, Dec. 23 (CNA) The United States government is currently reviewing Taoyuan International Airport's application to join the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Preclearance program, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) confirmed Wednesday.
MOFA spokeswoman Joanne Ou (歐江安) told reporters that the airport has applied to join the program via Taiwan's representative office in Washington after the CBP announced on Sept. 29 that it is inviting new airports to participate in the Preclearance program for the first time since 2016.
The U.S. side is currently reviewing the application, she said, adding that MOFA is working closely with related Taiwanese authorities to push for Taoyuan's inclusion in the program that will expedite the entry of its citizens into the U.S.
