‘Gunplot’ – ‘Put Your Trust in Princes’
Forget Arlene Foster’s ‘bit of bother’ there’s a cracking documentary here on RTE Player about the ‘arms conspiracy trial’ just over fifty years ago. I watched it last night.
It draws on new source material. There is political intrigue, double dealing, a Flemish emigre and businessman, an Irish Army Intelligence Officer who did the honourable things and although acquitted at ‘the arms trial’ was hung out to dry. Captain James Kelly took the issue to the grave and his headstone in Glasnevin cemetery has the inscription: ‘Put not your trust in princes’.
