Unlocked vehicles broken into, one stolen in Newberry overnight Sunday
At least seven unlocked vehicles were broken into overnight Sunday in Newberry, including one where keys had been left inside, according to initial law enforcement investigations.
The vehicle burglaries took place in the Country Way subdivision, near Newberry Elementary School, said Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. Frank Kinsey.
He said items stolen from inside the vehicles mostly include small items that could easily be carried away, though he didn’t know what they included specifically.
The sheriff’s office has obtained home security footage that detectives will review in the hopes of finding out more information on the burglar or burglars — it’s too soon at this time, Kinsey said, to know how many people are suspected.
