The Unlock Michigan Petition passed through the Michigan State Senate last week, and is set to reach the House of Representatives tomorrow.
Supporters of the movement disagreed with Governor Whitmer’s lockdown and effects COVID-19 had on the economy and residents’ lives over the past year.
The petition, if passed by the House, would repeal the emergency powers of the Governor Act of 1945.
Representative Greg Markkanen is a supporter of the petition and plans to vote “yes” tomorrow.
Representative Markkenan expects that the repeal of the 1945 EPGA will be passed along party lines on Thursday.
The governor can still declare states of emergency through the Emergency Powers Act of 1976. This act requires the governor to receive approval from the tate legislature for any extensions to states of emergency.
