uMsunduzi plans to rename 700 street names in bid to recoup debt

In a bid to get consumers paying for services, uMsunduzi plans to formalise and rename some 700 of its streets.

It says there is currently an estimated R4 billion consumer debt, in-part caused by the inability to track down residents living out of formal or registered street and home addresses.
The city says some 700 streets have been identified in Edendale and the Vulindlela areas which have seen a multiplication in population numbers yet the collection rate does not reflect this.
