AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Amherst faculty, staff and retirees generously donated a remarkable $452,830 to nonprofit organizations through the 2020-21 UMass Amherst Community Campaign (UMACC). There were 551 individual donors to the campaign and nearly $300,000 of the funds raised will go to Western Mass nonprofits with just over $200,000 staying in Hampshire County.
“When the pandemic hit, we had no idea of how it would affect UMACC. That we raised $452,000 is an outstanding accomplishment that reflects the strength of our community.” said Barbara Krauthamer, dean of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts and campaign co-chair. Greg Carvel, campaign co-chair and men’s hockey coach added, “The Amherst Survival Center and Food Bank of Western Mass brought in almost $30,000 each. Imagine how many people will be fed and receive medical care because our UMass colleagues stepped up in this time of unprecedented need.”
