LAKELAND — U.S. Rep. Darren Soto, one of Polk County’s three U.S. House members, is calling for President Donald Trump to be removed from office before his term ends in less than two weeks.
Soto, a Kissimmee Democrat, spoke a day after what he called an “armed insurrection” at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. The attack by Trump loyalists following his speech at a rally interrupted congressional debate on certifying the results of the presidential election.
Soto and other representatives and senators were forced to flee their chambers as a mob broke into the Capitol, committing vandalism and violence that led to five deaths, as of Friday, including a Capitol police officer.
