Local government cites tax advantages

SAIPAN, CNMI (Saipan Tribune, Nov. 10, 2009) - Military members who are on active duty and call the CNMI home are being encouraged to choose the Commonwealth as their "home port" of record so that their federal income taxes will be remitted by the federal government to the CNMI instead of other states or territories, thereby helping the local economy.
At the same time, officials yesterday said there were no CNMI troops hurt in the shooting at the Fort Hood Army Post in Texas on Thursday last week.
