U.S. Attorney John Anderson to resign Jan. 2

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico’s lead federal prosecutor said he plans to step down at the beginning of next year.
"As I prepare to depart from this role, obviously, I have mixed emotions,” said U.S. Attorney John Anderson.
Anderson was nominated by President Donald Trump in 2017 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2018. Since then, he’s overseen the prosecution of federal crimes in New Mexico including violent crimes and gun charges.
When asked about his time in office, Anderson said he was proud to increase resources in Indian Country.
“Even though it doesn’t have an operation name or designation, our federal law enforcement colleagues from the FBI along with prosecutors from this office, work on a daily basis to try and bring improved access to justice and public safety to Indian Country so that continues to be something I’m extraordinarily proud of,” he said.
