The 2021 heavyweight championship saga took another unexpected turn on Thursday when it learned that a COVID appearance at Tyson Fury’s camp had put it at risk of defending its planned WBC title against Deontay Wilder. The third fight between the two is scheduled for July 24 in Las Vegas, but according to several reports ESPN and Athletic, the two camps are gathering information on what the next steps are and whether the fight can continue.
“We continue to monitor the health status of Tyson and his team, and the status of the incident has not changed so far,” Fury’s Top Rank promoter said in a statement Thursday.
