TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Kathryn Sandercock and Sydney Sherrill have both been named to the 2022 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 50 Watch List.
The top 25 finalists for the 2022 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award will be announced on April 20. While an athlete does not have to be on the Watch List to be considered for the top 25, the eventual USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will come from the top 25 finalists. The top 10 finalists will be announced on May 4 and the top three announced on May 18. The 2022 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be revealed prior to the Women's College World Series. Freshmen can be considered for the Player of the Year award once they have competed at the collegiate level.
Sandercock was named an NFCA Second Team All-American and to the All-ACC First Team last season after finishing with a 27-4 record. She started in 26 games and pitched 10 complete games. She finished the 2021 season with a 1.25 ERA, 127 strikeouts and allowed the opponent to have a .191 batting average in 178.2 innings of work.
Sherrill was named the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season in 2021 and was named to the All-ACC First Team. She finished last season with a .304 batting average, 15 doubles, 34 RBI, and 15 stolen bases. This marks the third consecutive season that Sherrill has been named to the USA Softball Player of the Year Watch List.
