Two D.C. police officers early Friday shot a man who authorities said had moments earlier robbed and assaulted a person at gunpoint.
Police said the 58-year-old man was taken to a hospital with wounds described as not life-threatening.
The incident began shortly before 2:30 a.m., when police said a person was assaulted and robbed near 2nd Street and Rhode Island Avenue, in the LeDroit Park neighborhood of Northwest Washington. Police said the attacker used a gun to strike the victim.
A short time later, police said officers found the alleged assailant about two blocks away in the 200 block of Florida Avenue NW. In a statement, police said the man “refused to follow numerous commands” and “two officers discharged their firearms.”
