Discover the remarkable journey of Lincoln University's upcoming seniors, Chyler Hughes and Kennedy Thompson, as they are accepted into the prestigious U.S. Department of Education White House Initiative on Advancing Equity, Educational Excellence, and Economic Opportunity through Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) 2023 HBCU Scholar Recognition Program. With a record-breaking 101 scholars selected from over 250 applicants across 70 HBCUs, this cohort represents the largest in the program's history. Hughes and Thompson were chosen based on their exceptional academic achievements, campus leadership, civic engagement, and entrepreneurial spirit, backed by presidential recommendation and HBCU faculty endorsement. Hughes, majoring in agriculture with a focus on natural resource management, serves as the vice president of LU's agriculture club and has a meaningful internship with the Environmental Protection Agency Region 7. Thompson, majoring in psychology and minoring in English with an emphasis on creative writing, is actively involved in various campus organizations and holds the presidency of the creative writing club. As HBCU scholars, they will serve as esteemed student ambassadors, attending workshops and master classes to enhance their leadership skills and professional development. They will network with peers, federal agencies, and private partners, showcasing their talent and further empowering the HBCU community. Join us in congratulating Chyler Hughes and Kennedy Thompson on this exceptional achievement, and witness their journey unfold at the National Annual HBCU Week Conference in September. Let their inspiring success story encourage others to aim for the stars and beyond, embracing the excellence of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
