In the face of a historic winter storm that blew out the state's power grid, leaving more than 1.37 million in his own hometown and more than four million statewide in the dark and cold for the bulk of this week, most politicians might have shied away from the glaringly bad optics of getting the hell out of Texas and heading to warm, sunny, fully-powered Cancún. Cruz and his two daughters took off for Cancun on Wednesday, a trip that he explained as the result of his "being a good father" in the face of massive blowback and criticism. Cruz was slated to stay in Mexico through Saturday, reports say, but is now coming back this afternoon. But that was too late to ward off the Twitter users who have been having a very good time venting their disgust at a Texas elected official heading to Mexico while the people he represents shiver back home in the Lone Star State.
