TVO To Build Olkiluoto 3 Battery Back Up
Finish utility Teollisuuden Voima (TVO), owner of the Olkiluoto nuclear plant, said it had signed a contract for what will be one of the largest battery energy storage systems in Europe.
The 90-megawatt battery system is expected to serve as a backup in case of production disruptions at the OL3 reactor, which is expected to become operational in early 2022 after a prolonged construction scheduled marred by delays.
The battery system will help “minimize the effect of power fluctuations on the grid …. The turnkey solution acts as a fast-start backup power source,” TVO said.
