Troy student nonprofit aims to raise $35,000 for hunger in Detroit

TROY — They’ve done it twice before, but this time they’re aiming much higher.
A group of freshmen from the International Academy East High School in Troy have created a campaign to help out those struggling with food insecurity in Detroit.
Through a partnership with Gleaners Community Food Bank and the Texas-based nonprofit HungerMitao, the students, who created and operate the A Chance to Rise nonprofit, hope to be able to donate $35,000 and additional volunteer hours to help feed the hungry right in their own backyards.
