This week, dozens of middle school students in the Winston-Salem area are learning about the world of aviation. Jim Shaw's Aviation Career Education Academy, also known as ACE Academy, is in its 12th year at Smith Reynolds Airport.Shaw died in 2020, but his family is keeping the camp going and his legacy alive."He started this with the hopes of making sure all kids knew the career opportunities in aviation aeronautics. Black, brown, white, all kids," said Shaw's son, Jim Shaw, Jr. "He built this platform so they will know that there are some other opportunities out there, not just, like he said, basketball players and football players." On Tuesday, campers traveled to Piedmont Advantage Credit Union to learn about financial education through fun and games.PACU has partnered with ACE Academy for several years. PACU President and CEO Dion Williams said his company has an obligation to promote financial literacy and help prepare the next generation for the future.Camp for high school students will begin next week.For more information on ACE Academy, click here.
