Tom costello is following the latest on this rescue operation. The Fire Department calling this a major rescue operation thats playing out as we speak. Theyve brought in a giant crane to help free 17 miners who have underneath the cayuga salt mine. Theyre planning to lower a basket down to lift out the miners two or three at a time. The 17 miners became trapped about 10 20 last night when they were headed down to the mine. 2,300 feet below ground, starting their shift. The mine operator cargill says none of the trapped miners is injured and rescuers have been able to lower down water, heat packs and blankets to them. Unclear how long it might take to lift them all to safety. The mine has been operating since 1922. It processes 2 million tons of road salt each year. Guys, back to you. Well keep an eye on that. Three Tennessee High School aggravated rape and aggravated assault for brutal, alleged attacks on teammates d ding a hazing ritual. According to members of the ooltewah high School Basketball team, four underclassman players were physically assaulted on december 22nd in a cabin where the team was staying during a tournament. One of those students, according to the victim report, was also sexually assaulted with a pool cue, receiving worse treatment because he spoke up to three of the players carrying out the attacks. The alleged attackers, two cough mother sophomores and one senior, have been kicked off the team, is suspended from school and charged. Two are in custody. The freshman victim was released from the hospital after surgery and eight days of treatment. Hes left the school. In a meeting wednesday night, Hamilton County superintendent rick smith cancelled the basketball season. I can say or communicate public i. I i am heartbroken about this. For the elusive oscar statue, this year, hes considered a front runner. Im very proud that a movie like this got made. Its very, very, very rare to see films that are this ambitious coming out of the Hollywood Studio system. So im sort of on a tirade, trying to promote this because i want to see more films like this out there, as a fan of movies. But as far as awards are concerned, the truth is, theres a lot of peace of mind in it because you really realize that you ultimately have no control over these things. Is it something you hope for like i said, you know, honestly, i do these movies because i really love movies and i want to make great movies. All that is totally, totally beyond your control. Another moment on the list, he played don king in a tv movie and won the globe. He was nominated against jack lemon, an idol of his. He called jack lemon up on stage and said, being an artist is about giving and id like to give this to you. At first, jack tried to refuse it. Wouldnt have it. Heres jack lemon with the speech. She was supposed to come up and read the nominees off one last time, and then open the envelope and announce the winner. She started opening the envelope everyone thought she was going to announce the winner prematurely. Dick clark had to explain to her what to do. Then she announced. In her defense, you know from doing the live shows, unless you do this, you have to know to go out there. Theres an order and its not easy to get it right. Its unpredictable. Not easy. Not at all. Remember the Golden Globes when there was no Golden Globes . Oh, do i remember. I was on nbc with billy bush and nancy odell, nbc special, where we announced the winners and did commentary. It wasnt the highest rated Golden Globes. It was a Writers Strike. The Writers Strike killed the Golden Globes. None of the stars were going to show up. Instead, they had this press conference thing where some entertainment reporters read off the winners. As i said, nbc did a special. Heres what i hate, this was the only time jon hamm won a golden was no ceremony for him to show up to and make a speech. The Golden Globes never give it to you unless youre a new show. Jodie foster and her speech two years ago, she won the life achievement award. Shes so private so we didnt know what she was going to talk about. She was revealing and personal. She had a brilliant moment. You felt like she was going to come out, i am loud and proud, i am single everybody started laughing. She directed a movie since with George Clooney and Julia Roberts this summer money monster. She hasnt retired, but hasnt acted. Still in the business. We love her. Maybe one of ricky gervaiss opening monologue moments will make your list next year. I love when he hosts. Hes one step over the line of being appropriate.
