Lets check traffic now. Later this morning, a norfolk federal judge is settlement against a norfolk shipyard. The case is against bae norfolk systems ship repair. Nearly 200 women sued for sex discrimination. It could carry big price tag for the shipyard, which has contracts with navy. Rico bush is live outside the federal courthouse in norfolk with more on the classaction lawsuit. Don, lex, if the judge approves the settlement, it means bae will avoid a trial that could have brought attention to widespread allegations of Sexual Harassment and discrimination that dated back for years. In 2013, nearly 2hundred women filed a classaction lawsuit against the shipyard, allegeding they suffered pay and promotion discrimination and experienced sexual harrasment while working for bae systems. The company denied any wrongdoing at the time, but it appeared to reach a deal with the female workers. Last year, the women asked the shipyard to pay three Million Dollars to settle the lawsuit. Also under the proposed agreement, bae is required to make changes to its promotional decisions and Sexual Harassment complaints. 10 on your side is expected to be in court today for that hearing. Ncdot says water and sand from this past weekends storm are covering the road. Crews blocked off parts of the highway in ocracoke and kitty hawk as they cleared the debris. The army corps of engineers says it will award extra money for dredging in the oregon and hatteras inlets. Congressman walter jones says he sent the corps a letter requesting additional funds. Families, School Board Members and others, interested in the issue, attended a Forum Sponsored by concerned parents last the meeting comes as the Public School division looks to change grading policies for secondary schools and develop a uniform standard. Some parents want ongoing practices to change, like teachers allowing students to turn work in late and retake tests. One mother believes students are not being held accountable. A committee of teachers, parents, students and School Board Members are working on recommendations. So far, they havent made any formal submissions. Any changes the school board makes, will go into effect during the next school year. Virginia beach School Board Members are also thinking about changing the calendar. They passed a motion yesterday to remove some teaching days from the school year. The official vote to change the calendar is scheduled for next week. If the vote does go through students will spend one or two fewer days in class, and time for professional development. New this morning, theres a bill in the General Assembly that would allow students in underperforming schools to switch to a different one within the same district. The house passed the bill tuesday. It now heads to the senate. The Virginia Education Association president says she has some practical concerns. For example she wants to know what would happen if a student switched to a school that is already overcrowded. This morning Newport News Police are investigating a late night robbery at a cell phone store. Officers tell us someone with a weapon walked into the at t store on from Patrick Henry mall.
