[ male announcer ] every time you say no to a cigarette you celebrate a little win. nicorette gum helps calm your cravings and makes you less irritable. quit one cigarette at a time. i'm steve usdin. sunday morning on "biocentury this week," industry researchers and advocates join forces collaborating for cures. we discuss the collaborative triangle on "biocentury this week." join us sunday at 8:30 antwerp. well, you made it. good morning and welcome to friday, july 20. i'm mike hydeck. thanks for joining us. i'm jessica doyle in for andrea roane. monika samtani will have your time saver traffic in a mommy. olga is in. she's not cafinated yet. like a lot of folks at home, we get your pain. >> i'm struggling to keep the eyelids open. the lightning and thunder last night awakened a lot of people. >> i think we have a few folks without power this morning as well. >> right now looking pretty good. a forecast will feature clouds in the morning. the day planner is starting out on the muggy side, feeling steamy outside but our temperatures should old upper 70s to 80 degrees through the 9:00 hour. then we'll slowly push into the middle 80s by midday but the cloud cover will definitely take over and we'll see an opportunity for scattered showers and storms later on this afternoon and into the evening hours. we could see more of the same tonight as we head on through. right now our doppler 9000 looks pretty good. all of that moisture from last night or early morning hours has been pushing toward the eastern shore. that will continue to move on out. the temperatures left behind a little bit refreshing. we shifted our wind direction and that's idea temperatures down nicely sitting in the lower 70s for most of us. muggy in the city center and we're pulling in moisture from the south as well so it's a little sticky down to the south. highs today are going to be reasonable. lower 80s. we will see some warmer spots. andrews air force base could get up 2086. orange, virginia as well. should see 87 in manassas. it will be okay for the game this evening, but we'll definitely see some showers late day into the afternoon. in case you heard about it, overnight there had been a serious accident involving a tractor-trailer on the inner loop of the beltway right before the exit for 270 involving a diesel fuel spill and a tractor-trailer as i said. everything was cleared up at around 3:00. now on the outer loop of the beltway at the exit for river road, you might find some high standing water with an arrow board set up. that's going to be the outer loop. as you head southbound on the beltway past river road. river road was reopened. there had been a tree down there overnight as well. i just heard that all lanes are reopened on river road near goldsboro as well. so a cowell of things for you to keep in mind in bethesda. let's go back over to our maps and in time we'll head west no problems to report 66 or the dulles toll road. if you're planning to head over into maryland in seabrook, eastbound 1931 closed between lanham severn and annapolis road. we'll go over to virginia. northbound on i-59 here in springfield -- i-95 here in springfield, lanes are open. seems like the same song, different verse. we begin this morning with a look at the impact of last night's very slow, very loud moving storms. they dropped nearly two inches of rain in parts of our region. >> the storms also left several of our neighbors without power. here's a look at the latest power outages. dominion power has a thousand in northern virginia. bge has 1,206 outages in our region. most of those are in prince george's county. and you knew this was coming. pepco dealing with 16,083 customers without power taking the brunt of this thing yet again. most of those people are in the district. the storm dropped rain here in the region and caused even worse flooding to our north. in and around baltimore. several parts of baltimore were left under water. down trees and power lines were reported in baltimore city and county as well as parts of anne arundel county. baltimore city police were forced to block off a number of intersections due to this flooding. since the recent storms that seem to keep pounding our region, a lot of people have been calling on pepco to bury the power lines. >> iew till is looking into the proposal but reporter matt jablow traveled to one city where burying power lines is already in place. >> reporter: in the days immediately after last month's derecho which knocked out power, most power co-workers in the area were as busy as they've ever been if not busier. was business as ua
