natalee holloway, has confessed to murdering a peruvian woman. van der sloot has been in peruvian custody since late friday. police released this security video of van der sloot at his hotel showing him entering his room on the night of may 30th with 21-year-old stephany flores, five years to the day since the disappearance of natalee holloway. four hours later, van der sloot left alone. nor rez' body was found two days later, her neck broken. police questioned van der sloot for days before he confessed. the lima newspaper reports that van der sloot admitted killing flores in the presence of a prosecutor and lawyer. he said, i did not want to do it. the girl intruded into my private life. a peruvian wire service reports van der sloot flores saw something about holloway on his computer. quote, she tried to escape and i took her neck and hit her. van der sloot has long been the main suspect in the holloway disappearance. she disappeared in 2005 while on a graduation trip to aruba. her body has never been found. van der sloot was held for 90 days, but never charged. the case h will be turned over to prosecutors who are will present norm formal charges. today police plan to take van der sloot to the hotel to recreate the events leading up to flores' death. turning now to the gulf of mexico where slow progress is being made to contain that massive oil leak. on this, the 50th day of the leak, that's the good news. but the coast guard warns the effort to eliminate the oil that's already in the gulf could last for a long, long time. man well gay and i gus reports. >> reporter: a containment cap is collecting more than 460,000 gallons of oil every day. that's somewhere between 30% to 75% of the total daily amount of crude leaking in to the gulf. the company will alsorelays the next month with a bigger one. it's a progress and a battle the coast guard admits will be very lengthy. >> dealing with the oil spill on the surface will go on if a couple of months. i agree, long term issues of restoring the environment will be years. >> reporter: the bp executive in charge of cleanup took his first tour of the oily mess since the leak started. >> what i saw was painful, it was emotional, and shocking. >> reporter: containing the oil is becoming more difficult because it's breaking into hundred hs of thousands of patches above and below the surface. and more and more of the crude is coming ashore in the gulf states. on dauphin island in alabama, tar balls keep washing ashore, constantly keeping cleanup crews busy. >> walked to the water and that's when you really start to notice it. >> reporter: it's maddening for the state's politicians is who say they're not getting the boom and skimmers they need to protect fragile coastlines. >> it is becoming increasingly asia made a modest recovery this morning after monday's heavy losses. and ashley morrison is here in new york with that and more. >> reporter: good morning. well, asian markets edged up today as investors went bargain hunting. nikkei gained a fraction while the hang seng was also mostly up. today wall street gets the latest on retail sales and the job market. monday was another late day selloff with the dow dropping 115 points. the nasdaq lost 45. chrysler's recalling nearly 600,000 minivans and jeep wranglers. regulators say the 2006 through 2010 wranglers have a potential brake fluid leak and the 2008 and 2009 minivans have a wiring problem that could cause a fire. there have been no crashes or injuries reported. h h is the second big recall for chrysler in the past week. the panel investigating the financial meltdown has delivered a p to goldman sachs. the commission says the bank has not responded to some of its requests for information. instead, goldman has sent the panel a blizzard of documents, more than the staff can handle. the subpoena includes requests for interviews with goldman executives including ceo lloyd plan fine. and more bad news for those working that overnight shift. a new study finds employees who start their day between 8:00 p.m. and midnight get the least sleep and have consistently poorer performance. the maximum on the job fatigue occurred with a shift that started at 11:00 p.m. because workers can't get enough shut eye before their shift begins. but i guess they could have just asked us that, right, michelle? >> absolutely. >>
