And neither should any parent out here whos thinking about their kids being not in the wrong place but in place wheres kids are supposed to be. Pelley the 49, ages 18 to 50, were killed sunday nightclub. Of the more than 50 others who are wounded, 28 are still in the hospital. Tonight, six of them are in critical condition. Homeland security correspondent jeff pegues has the latest on the investigation. Reporter Gun Store Owner robert abbele says in the weeks before the orlando shooting, omar mateen tried to buy body armor at his gun shop. Mateen was told the store didnt sell body armor. At this time, he pulled away, and got on to his cell phone. When he was on his cell phone, he had a conversation in a foreign language. That was more concerning. Then he came back, and he was requesting ammo. Reporter abbele says his employees were so concerned, they called the f. B. I. Authorities say the gun store was not able to provide them with a name. On the night of the shooting, an official familiar with the timeline tells cbs news that mateen was active on social media before and during the ag the shooting, mateen posted on facebook, alliance to isis leader abu bakr al baghdadi. Then, after the shooting began, mateen paused and sources say he searched for pulse orlando and shooting perhaps to see if the massacre upon of was trending online. He also made calls to 911 and a television station on ongoing shooting. Investigators are focusing on what role mateens wife might have played in the attack. She has been cooperating, but officials believe she had some knowledge of an attack and will likely face some charges. School records show that omar mateen was a troubled child and a disciplinary problem. He was suspended for 48 total days while in high school. Most were for fighting and other rule violations. In an application for a College Criminal Justice program, mateen wrote that he want aid career in Law Enforcement as far back as 2004. He wrote that in ninth grade, i got into a fight with a fellow student in class. I was he admitted he had been arrested and the subject of a criminal investigation but did not elaborate. He also admitted to using marijuana and steroids. In 2007, mateen was dismissed from a job at the Florida Department of corrections. It is unclear why. The f. B. I. Is talking to other family members, including mateens father. Scott, a former boss tells cbs news that mateen told her he could do nothing right in his fathersize, and that his father complained that he didnt have any direction in his life. Cbs news has now obtained a video of the scene inside the nightclub as people hid from the gunman. Heres jamie yuccas. Reporter this grainy cell phone video captures the horror from inside the womens as omar mateen went on a shooting rampage nearby. Shhh reporter it was recorded while more than a dozen people squeezed into one stall, some of them already shot, sharing a glass of water, trying to keep each other calm and quiet so they would not be heard by the gunman. Miguel filmed this video. We had to be quiet because everybody whose phone of ringing and any noise he heard he was going in that direction and just shooting people and killing them. Reporter they huddled for three hours, refusing mateens orders to step out. It was really hot in there. The smell of blood, and just dead bodes everywhere. Reporter outside the building, swat commander captain mark canty planned a rescue. During that entire time period, officers were rescuing people. The entire time, we were doing things to try to get people out. We got a lot of people out before that last breach. Reporter those trapped in swat teams main focus. The video was in case i didnt think i was going to make it. I thought i was going to die. And i figured somebody has to somebody has to know what happened. We knew they were in the bathroom. We thought there might be some in the bathroom across the hall but we were getting information that there were people in other rooms inside the club. Reporter finely, cantys team moved in, breaching the wall with a frontend loader. There was a shootout. Mateen was shot dead, and those who were still alive were dragged to safety. Angel colon had been shot five times and was one of the last people to get out. Im one of the ones that helped you out. Reporter today me had the his hero, officer omar delgado. I just saw him, his glasses and said, help me, please. And when he was dragging me out, i could just look up and tell him, go. Hurry. Reporter this public memorial has become so important to the city of orlando, that with rain now coming down, theyve protected it with plastic. Later, mccain said he misspoke and did not mean to imply that the president was responsible for orlando. I saw something rapidly coming on h reporter in april of 2015, san diego lawyer david hiden took his family to disney world. His fiveyearold son waded calf deep into a la goon behind their hotel. And i looked and i went, oh, my god. Thats an alligator. And it was probably about six to seven feet. Reporter hiden grabbed his son to safety and spotted a second alligator lurking nearby. The family was staying at disney worlds coronado springs resort, which is three and a half miles from the grand floridian resort and spa where twoyearold graves was killed. But a year earlier, hiden says he warned a hotel energy, even showed her this photo he took of one of the gators. And the response i just couldnt believe it it was, those are resident pets, and weve known about them for years, and theyre harmless. Theyre not going to attack anybody.
