Relatives have jammed a Crisis Center in indonesia desperate for word. Hundreds took part in a candlelight vigil. Allen pizzey begins our coverage in surabaya. Reporter wooden coffins, simply numbers 1 and 2 brought the first bodies back to the airport from where the doomed flight took off. They were identified only as a woman wearing blue jeans and a boy four and a half feet tall. The recovery effort is being hampered by bad weather and is now a race against time. A searchandrescue official said bodies and debris have drifted as much as 30 miles in one day. At the airport Crisis Center, officials compile physical details, such as tattoos and birth marks provided by relatives, anything to help with the positive identification. The key to understanding why the plane crash lies in its black boxes, which ought to be relatively easy to find in the shallow waters of the java sea but bad weather is making that extremely difficult, and the prediction for the next two days are that it will get worse. Transportation correspondent jeff pegues reports airlines and regulators are working on ways to improve the way flights are tracked. Reporter systems to more effectively track planes and locate black boxes exist and could have given flight 8501 search teams a head start. This is afirs the automated flight information reporting system, which continually sends Realtime Data from plane to satellite to monitoring stationing on the ground. The technology was developed by a Company Called Flyht Aerospace solutions. With it, controllers will always know where a plane is. There is also a black box that will separate from the blaen planewhen it crashes into the water. The combination cockpit voice and flight data recorder ejects, floats and sends signals providing search teams with a location of the crash site. U. S. Navy jets, such as this fa18, use deployable black boxes for two decades but the process to get changes mandated in civilian planes can be slow and cumbersome and may take years. There are regulatory hurdles, as well as costbenefit concerns, in the airline industry. Reporter were hearing airbus is moving forward with the deployable black boxes in some of its planes but boeing is not. Boeing said in one case air deployable black box ejected over a downtown area. The search for a missing frederick toddler comes to a tragic end tonight. Im debra alfarone. Police say the body found near an ohio creek this morning is that of 14monthold Cameron Beckford. The childs Mother Told Police she left her child on a strangers doorstep. What kind of charges the woman could face. Reporter im Stephanie Ramirez in frederick where we learned from police today this was not a kidnapping, that the mother went to ohio around december 15th supposedly to visit friends and family, but in ohio is where everything went wrong for the childrens father who was still here in frederick at the time. 24yearold Dainesha Stevens remained emotionless. She appeared in ohio Court Earlier today charged with two felonies, child endangerment and tampering with evidence, and an investigator says shell be hit with more. The mother is believed to be responsible for the death of her youngest 14monthold Cameron Beckford whose body was confirmed found near an area called Big Walnut Creek in ohio today. Camerons father reported the toddler missing on december 28th to police after he had trouble making contact with the kids. While columbus was looking at this welfare check
