Also approaches from the south, so the changeoffer will happen there first. Were going to see a wintry mix throughout the immediate metro area through the early afternoon hours. And then well start to change over to rain, but temperatures will still be marginal so that we will have the light coating of freezing rain, the ice that falls on top of the sleet and snow. Good news, though, we dont have nearly as much moisture in this forecast as we did with the one last saturday. So just light accumulations. Its going to be bad for the roads, but it could be much worse, just like it was, of course, last saturday. So heres the setup. Well see cold air from top to bottom from the cloud to the ground to start. Thats snow. Were going to see a little bit of a changeover by about noon. That milder air starts to wedge its way in here. Thats when we get the sleet. The rain will melt before it hits the ground. Thats when you get those ice balls that kind of pop off the windshield. Then freezing rain as more mild air creeps its way into the system and freezes on contact and this is what you can expect in the immediate metro area. Well see a mix and rain, but the rain doesnt arrive until late in the afternoon. Coming up in the full forecast, well time this out with 9 future cast and give you an idea of exactly what to expect in your neighborhood. Back to you. Thanks, erica. But we have another Winter Weather event on the way. They keep on coming. Lets take a look right now at our Winter Weather advisory. It is for the entire dmv. It is basically for the entire day on sunday. But heres the good news. Its an advisory. Its not a warning. We are not going to meet warning level criteria for this storm. That means that ice accumulations and snow accumulations will not be enough to suffice for a winter storm warning. Great news there. Its just an advisory. Right now, its 30 degrees. The dewpoint is 4. Its cold and its dry, but at least the winds are light right now out of the south at 3 miles per hour. Current temperatures, 28 in manassas, 28 in hagerstown, 25 in gaithersburg. Its pretty cold. And here comes a winter storm. You can see it on satellite and radar. Its snowing in st. Louis, snowing in indianapolis and thats heading our way. On 9 future cast, youll see the onset of the snow here around 9 00 a. M. , as i mentioned at the beginning of the show. Well see the wintry weather start to move in at that point. But its not overspreading the entire area until about noon. Look at the temperatures. 31 throughout almost the entire area. The pink is an indication of sleet and freezing rain, how deep the cold air is determining whether you have sleet pellets or whether this is falling as freezing rain. Notice that the model is trying to change this over to plain rain by about 3 00, but temperatures, still 31 in leesburg, 32 in manassas. That means well continue to see an icy coating out there and we might not completely wash away the icy accumulations. This is what were expecting on future cast, about 0. 13 inches of ice in culpepper, manassas, fredericksburg, la plata. That tenth of an inch is going to put a coating on everything, but its not enough ice to pull down power lines or trees, thank goodness. Its not going to be that drastic of an event for us. Overnight tonight, its going to be really cold again. Mostly cloudy, 16 to 24 degrees. Then in the morning, well see that mixture of snow and sleet, less than an inch to around an inch of accumulation in the immediate metro area, with temperatures in the 20s. Then in the afternoon, well start to change over to freezing rain. Then eventually just plain rain. Highs between 30 and 35 degrees. Winds are very light out of the southsoutheast. Tomorrow, of course, is a yellow alert day because of that wintry mix, but at least its a light wintry mix, so it wont take long to wash it away. 48 on monday. That will help to melt some of this. But its still below average for this time of year. In the first alert sevenday forecast, thats when well really do the melting and washing away of the snow and ice, as temperatures get into the 50s by wednesday.
