now. now the fuss caused by a diplomat from qatar. sources now say he was headed for a visit with an imprisoned al-qaeda agent. we have the story. >> reporter: he is the third secretary at the qatar embassy. he was on his way to a consul lar visit with sleeper agent and qatar national at the super-max prison in colorado. he snuck into the united airlines flight lavatory and smoked a cigarette, questioned by air mar shuls, he allegedly joked he was lighting a shoe bomb. that led norad to scramble two f16 to escort the plane to an drupt landing at the denver airport. passengers then realized there was a problem. >> there was no steven siegel. he stat down and he was compliant. >> reporter: he was taken into custody briefly but then released without charges. qatar's ambassador defended him saying he was travelling to denver on official embassy business on my instructions and he was certainly not engaged in any threatening activity. the facts will reveal this was a mistake. no explosives were found but passengers had to deal with hours of questioning from the fbi. >> these are the times, you know? i think the guy made a very stupid -- couple of very stupid actions, and we ended up racist vandalism that turned up in the walkways along the george washington parkway. these are photos of nazi white-power hate messages found here similar to others that have been turning up recently. the graffiti has been cleaned off already. based on his long history with them, boss is the only suspect. >> we have seen a resurgence of this graffiti. we had some in tran sis scott key park in georgetown and then we had the graffiti by the airport. we believe mr. bost is out of jail now. he was arrested for similar activities and he is now out of jail and this is the similar writing he has been doing in the past. >> reporter: wayne thomas and his dog walk here all the time. wayne said the graffiti turned up monday and he is glad it is gone and he can't figure out why suspects are so hard to catch. >> the amazing thing, it is always on the highways that are always busy, where everybody is always at. i don't understand how you can never see these people in action, the airport is right there. i don't know how or when somebody finds the time to do this. >> reporter: bost's known address was in alexandria. he is known to hang around the national mall and public libraries, also. you should call 911 if you ever see anyone putting up graffiti. 9 news now. this past week the four young people shot and killed in the drive-by carnage in southeast d.c. were laid to rest. one of them, 17-year-old tavon nelson was remembered as a bright and respectful young man who was a playstation whiz. we have the story. >> reporter: the tee shorts imploring him to rest in peace were more apparent than the suits and ties. >> no words for me to say. >> reporter: scores of young people turned out at the tenth street baptist church this morning to grieve the 17-year-old known to most family and friends as simply tavon. >> he's gone and i hope they do something about all of this violence. >> reporter: he's one of four young people killed last tuesday as they said or stood in front of an apartment building in brandywine. five people are wounded. four people opened fire from a van with an ak47. a stolen bracelet started the gun play. it claimed five lives and left six people wounded. >> you see people shooting for no reason because you don't like what they have on. >> reporter: the leaders were at tavon's wake and funeral. they vowed to restore money to the peaceaholics. >> councilman brown was vowing to tackle youth unemployment. >> we have to be tough on crime but at the same time we have to provide opportunity for our young folks. >> reporter: cameras were barred once the funeral started where the pastor criticized the city's adults from becoming alienated from at-risk youth. >> detachment are just as responsible as those actively involved in the shooting. >> reporter: he is tired of seeing young african-americans stretched out in coffins. he wants to see them standing up. there are two more funerals tomorrow and another on thursday. >> three suspects are in custody charged in the four slayings including a 14-year-old. all three had been in custody days prior to the slayings. bruce johnson, 9 news now. services for two other victims were on wednesday. another victim was buried on thursday. meantime the alleged 14-year-old getaway driver in those shootings faces 41 criminal counts. among them four counts of first-degree murder. a closed door hearing was held in d.c. superior court. the teen is scheduled to go on trial may 13th. virginia's governor declares april history month. honoring confederate soldiers. more on the controversy. >> this particular flag here, my wife made this. this was the very first confederate gun flag. >> reporter: he proudly displays the battle flag of the confederacy and the stars and bars. >> my ancestors were part of that. and i feel proud of that. >> reporter: so much so he has written books about his great grandfather's and nearly a dozen ancestors who fought in the civil war. >> this is a confederate flag, the first national confederate flag. >> reporter: he said the conflicts fought on battlefields in virginia were not about slaves but preserving the constitution and individual rights. he embraces the move that governor bob mcdonnell proclaimed. >> that is crazy. >> reporter: virgin anns acted with strong emotions. >> i know we're virginia but that is ridiculous. that he would do that and not refer to slavery, either? i mean, this guy is just a real idiot, i think. >> not everything needs to be remembered. it was a very painful, unpleasant part of this country's history. >> for the purpose of educating our youth in the history of our country, then i think it is good. >> reporter: he realizes it is these flags that invoke controversy but he wants people to honor and remember history. >> it is a part of our history and we are the country we are because we suffered through it. naacp president had this reaction. this decision by the governor disrespects history and the people of virginia and it is a tragic break from his predecessors who acknowledged the painful legacy of slavery. mcdonnell added a sentence to his proclamation denounce pg the evils of slavery and in the civil war. a gang rape in charles county. the sheriffs's department said 10 men attacked a woman inside this home. seven are under arrest including one man who was just arrested last week in newark, new jersey. three men are still at large. detectives believe they are no longer in our area. montgomery county police officers said their final farewell to one of their own. hector iella died last sunday when his cruiser hit a tree. hundreds of people attended his funeral and the officer will be buried in maryland. we have more. >> reporter: it is very sad when you bury a brother. >> reporter: he is remembered for his dedication to the badge. >> you can see this man had a heart for public service his entire life. >> reporter: he died in the line of duty responding to a call on easter sunday. his cruiser struck a tree along randolph road. >> there is no worse time for a police department than when we lose one of our own. >> reporter: hundreds of officers escorted iella and his family to st. peter's catholic church, and saluting his service. >> we wear this for 30 days after his death. >> reporter: the officer worked midnights and was a seven-year veteran who trained new officers. he is credited with saving a man who tried to take his own life. >> he had an excellent work ethic and, of course, he will be missed dearly. he was just a tremendous officer. >> reporter: he was also a spanish translator. >> some officers get paid for being a spanish translator. he did not. he just chose to do it. that is the type of person he was. he volunteered his services and didn't expect compensation. >> reporter: he leaves behind a 14-month-old son, his wife is expecting to give birth to triplets in june. >> we hope and pray that with support from the police department and overdraft coverage. but that is about to change. >> soon new federal regulations will require that the banks get your permission to cover overdrafts. >> reporter: should you sign up? consumer reports says no. but some banks are pushing hard, warning your debit card may not work the same anymore and don't lose the flexibility of overdraft coverage. >> if you need your car towed and don't have the money in your account, the fees can be hefty, $35 each time. >> reporter: avoid overdrafts altogether. if your bank offers it, sign up for electronic alerts when your account balance gets low. >> another option is to link checking account to savings account or line of credit. the fees for that production are usually $5 or $10 per overdraft. >> reporter: as for charles, he checks his account statements frequently on-line to make sure he doesn't spend more than he has. bank of america recently announced with doing away with overdraft coverages on credit card coverage. it will apply to new have a high pollen count we get a lot of eye symptoms. >> reporter: that is why this woman had allergy shots at an early age. >> sometimes when i run or play or exercising or sometimes i get shortness of breath. >> reporter: dr. white says over-the-counter medications, as well as prescription medications, help control symptoms. so will a few preventive measures. >> keep the windows and doors closed and turn on the air conditions. when you drive in the car, do the same thing. keep the windows up. in a car that is moving, the pollen count is about 90% of what it is outdoors if your windows are down. >> dr. white also says for people who don't typically have spring allergies, the high pollen counts could still cause reactions this year. steps can you take to control them, go to our website,
