to school. walking the streets. right now herndon town council arguing whether day laborers are being unfairly targeted. police trying to figure out what made this morning so very deadly in prince george's county. i'm bruce leshan. it has been a deadly day in prince george's county. over the course of eight hours, three people have been shot in three different places. the first shooting was here outside the upscale ballroom. workers say the two men may have laid in wait in the woods and ambushed a man who was leaving the club. the second shooting was just a few miles from here. about an hour later a woman came home to the townhouse that she shares with her young daughter and found her boyfriend inside shot to death. and then about 7:30 a.m., people driving by noticed a man shot to death. it looked like execution style. shot repeatedly just outside the gates of a land fill. >> none of these three appear to be random acts of violence. it is likely that the victims in each of these three cases knew the suspect. >> i'm peggy fox in herndon where a visit sen a -- a citizen's group is wants the town council to rescind the streets ordinance. the largest day labor gathering site in herndon. >> i feel uncomfortable. we are not feeling safe because we think that the laws are going against the immigrants. >> reporter: the town's 1st street law was thrown out because it did target day laborers. this new one includes any kind of solicitation. >> i don't believe it is unconstitutional. i wouldn't have voted for it the first time. i'm outside of a high school in bethesda where a student is facing charges tonight after police say he brought a weapon that looks like this to school. just hours after his arrest only 9news now was on the scene when the boy police say hid an air gun in his backpack leaves a montgomery county police station. >> i think it is shocking that it is so easy for students to bring stuff to school. >> reporter: this letter sent home to parents tells the story. a ninth grader at walt whitman high school passed a note to a teacher saying the 14-year-old student had a weapon inside his backpack. after a search the school resource officer discovered an air soft gun that looks something like this along with a box of 200 pellets. the department of justice trying to help crack down on bullying in the nation's schools. today, the assistant attorney general spoke to students at james hubert school. >> all bullying is wrong and we are going to use every tool in our law enforcement arsenal to root out bullying but the best way to root it out is to prevent it. >> there is a lot of bullying going on at blake but i know in comparison to other high schools it is not as bad. >> today's civil rights discussion was voluntary for the students who took part it in it. >> a proposal to give amnesty to folks who have not yet paid parking tickets in dc got a little support today. dc officials confirm more than $300 million in parking fines and the penalties is all owed to the city. this story first reported today but "the washington examiner." dmv officials concede they have considered an amnesty program where people would be allowed to pay the original fine and the added penalties would be forgiven. this would be welcome news to drivers who got tickets today right outside the d.mv where they were trying to pay tickets they already had. >> how much money are you paying out in tickets? >> you wouldn't believe it. i'm paying like $3300. >> whoa. >> mm-hmm then it is like dated back from like 2000. >> they are trying to balance the budget off writing tickets off the people much it is not fair at all. >> amnesty program would need mayor vincent grey's approval and vote from the dc council. city officials say that the money could help close a nearly half billion dollars budget gap for the next year. dc councilwoman mary chay introduced a bill that would start fining dc residents who do not shovel their sidewalks right after it snows. the winter sidewalk safety amendment of 2011 would give you eight daylight hours to clear your sidewalks after it stopped snowing. residents would face a $25 fine. business owners would pay $250. several other regions in our area also require you shovel your sidewalk after the snow or face a fine. montgomery county, however, you have a full 24 hours to get it done. alexandria, you have between 24 and 72 hours. so what do you think about the dc proposal? perhaps not. but maybe he or she should have complained. still, this whole thing has left me with some big questions. first of all, four years later, really? nobody in charge knew anything about what was in those videos including the commanding officer of the only prize until three days ago? okay, sure. this was frat boy stuff that simply wouldn't fly in your office or my office. but is the military a equal different type of place with rules we civilians don't understand. beyond that's videos what sort of ship did captain honors run. did people feel respected and welcome?
