drew levenson has more. >> reporter: athletic director tim occurly and vice president gary schultz resigned overnight. now they are expected to turn themselves in. they are accused of lying to the grand jury, investigating sex abuse allegations against the school's former football defensive coordinator. the coach was arrested on charges he targeted eight boys over a 15 year period. he faces on 40 criminal counts, ranging from inappropriate touching to statutory rape. prosecutors say sandusky abused boys he met flu a charity he founded. a graduate student saw sandusky assaulting a ten-year-old in a shower on campus. and reported the incident to head coach joe paterno. paterno told schultz. the proadministrators failed to immediately alert police. >> the two men say they did nothing wrong. schultz's lawyer says schultz did nothing wrong because schultz didn't witness the assaults. sandusky retired in 1999. the allegations have stunned penn state fans. >> when he was a coach, and he was doing so many good things with the second mile, and you are kind of like proud of him. >> reporter: sandusky denies the charges. drew levenson, cbs news, harrisburg. sandusky is free on $100,000 bond. two school administrators who are accused of covering up his actions are expected to turn themselves in this afternoon. a pretrial hearing is underway for george hugely in charlotte lotsville, virginia. the former uva lacrosse player is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend, 22-year-old yardly love. lawyers want jurors to fill out individual questionnaires and they want the jury to be sequestered when the trial begins. hugely faces first degree murder charge. we'll have more on that hearing beginning at 5:00 p.m. things are returning back to normal this afternoon, along massachusetts avenue northwest. but that was not the case just a few hours ago. a dump truck hit a gas meter at 2121 massachusetts avenue northwest. the fire department came, and several streets were blocked. nearly 60 people were evacuated from a club as a precaution but the gas leak has been repaired. rail service on the red line is back to normal this afternoon after a woman was struck and killed by a subway train. it happened just after 8:00, at the bethesda metro station. montgomery county police say it appears the woman intentionally put herself in the path of the glenmont-bound train as it entered the bethesda station. she died on the scene. police have not released her name. president obama plans to meet today with local veteran groups to discuss case ways to help veterans struggling to find work. the president is promoting new ways to help veterans find jobs in this tough economy, and he is also pressing congress to approve tax credits for businesses that hire former members of the military. gloria allred says another woman has come forward accusing republican presidential hopeful herman cain of sexual harassment. the high profile attorney and the woman are planning a news conference to be held in new york city later today. the woman would be at least the fourth person to accuse cain, a former businessman, of harassment. cain is refusing to address reporter's questions about the matter on the campaign trail. police are investigating another report of an attempted abduction. an eight-year-old girl says that four men tried to coax her into a van. just blocks fro her home on satter field court. she got away. police are urging parents and students to be very cautious. this is the fifth reported abduction attempt in the area since mid october. students at frostburg state university are returning to school a day after one of their classmates was killed. 1-year-old courtney mccoy -- 19-year-old courtney mccoy was stabbed to death early yesterday morning. it was done by a fellow student. surae chinn has more. >> reporter: grievance counselors are helping students and teachers mourn the loss of 19-year-old courtney mccoy. but for devin james, singing is what's helping him through this tragedy. courtney's gospel choir came together to pay tribute to the sophomore student last night. >> dealing with courtney's death is indescribable. you never imagined that. you'll be in college and that you have to bury your friend. >> reporter: courtney was a resident hall advisor who dreamed of being a singer. >> loved, loved to sing. she is my little song bird. intelligent, promising future, just taken away. >> reporter: the president of this tight knit university of 5000 also saddened by a life cut short. >> we are very sad over the loss of such an incredibly wonderful young woman, and someone who had such amazing promise for the future. >> reporter: police say courtney was at an off cam pus party. her family says she was trying to break up a fight at this home off maple street. the fight continued outside and that is when police say 23-year-old shanea liggins stabbed courtney, from theburg's university president wrote on the school's website that the best way to show respect and honor courtney is to find better ways to resolve conflict, other than hurting each other. surae chinn, 9news now. this is not the first time the school has seen violence in the last two years. in april of last year a student opened fire, killing one student, and injuring another. and just two months ago, a bowie state university student was accused of stabbing to death her roommate. a new report says that metro's underground radio system is plagued with dead zones. washington -- the washington examiner quotes a police union official, who says that the most recent failure was halloween night. pepper spray was released in the foggy bottom station. metro acknowledges its radio system is flawed. the agency hopes to see contracts this month. a hearing is scheduled today on the fate of so-called big box stores in montgomery county. a new bill would require large retail stores to enter into a community benefits agreement, with at least three recognized civic organizations. assistance from the county would be limited, without that agreement. a large retail store is defined as one that occupies a footprint of at least 75,000 square feet. just in time for the holidays, higher gasoline prices, aaa says a gallon of regular grade gasoline in our region is averaging $3.40. up 4 cents a gallon from last month. and up 58 kenseth from one year ago. the redskins are 3-5 following yesterday's loss to the san francisco 49ers. the redskins turned the ball over three times in the 19-11 defeat. despite the team's hero central report, when i come back. people become homeless for a variety of reasons, and most face multiple challenges. while we have heard the expression that it takes a village to raise a child, sometimes it takes a village to raise a woman out of despair. >> i was desperate, destitute, lonely and in despair. i didn't know what to do. my daughter had mentioned the shelter and i had never been homeless before. >> reporter: two years ago rene pet away -- petaway, hit rock bottom. end street village came to her aid. they help nearly 900 homeless and low income women each year. >> they can receive services for their basic needs, starting at the most simple things, meals, lant dr. conrad murray, clothing, a place to make a telephone call, an address where they can receive mail. an education and employment center and a wellness center. so we are a community that focuses a lot on relationships and support. >> rene now has her own apartment, works and egertonly mentors other homeless women. >> i would call myself an alumni now, i really enjoy coming back here to do meetings, to help out wherever i can, because i believe in giving back. >> reporter: many of the clients who come here to end street village suffer from mental illness, incarceration, illiteracy and sexual trauma. but they say they get more than training and housing, they get love. and the necessary tools to become self-sufficient. >> when i came here to end street village, i was hopeless. now i have hope. hfor happiness, o, for opportunity, p, for peace and e, for empowerment. that's what i got here. >>
