moammar gadhafi is dead. the new prime minister is reporting he died after forces overwhelmed him home town. we must warn you, some of the pictures you are about to see are graphic. tara mergener has more. >> reporter: rebels cheered and crowded around a body they claim is moammar gadhafi and celebration filled the streets. in the dictators home town fighters fired into the air. [ sound of gunfire ] >> sirte has been the last force held. nato hit a convey fleeing with gadhafi. fighters say this photo is proof he is dead. the new leaders told reporters in tripoli, libya had been waiting for this moment for a long time. secretary of state hillary clinton, who just visited the country, said this is a turning point for the people of libya. >> if they know he is no longer a threat to them, i think that will actually ease the transition process into a new government. >> reporter: gadhafi had been in hiding for two months. during that time, washington has offered support and millions of dollars to help with the country's transition. security experts say this could provoke change throughout the region. >> here was a leader who ruled with had been iron fist for 42 years who is no longer in the scene. he was toppled by popular revolt. >> reporter: as sirte fell to the rebels, fighters went from one house to the next looking for loyalists in hiding. transition leaders are calling today the real liberation of libya. tara mergener for cbs news, white house. >> and witnesses are saying his body was put on display in the nearby down of misrata. hillary clinton is in kabul urging afghan leaders to talk with the taliban. but the president is resisting that after one of key peace brokers was killed. she will also demand pakistan. she is demanding leaders step up the fight with terrorists within the borders to be a part of the solution of the ongoing conflict in neighboring afghanistan as well. here is a look at a police barricade in northwest d.c. avoid the four-block area of k. street. a man has locked himself in an apartment with running water. there are reports that he was attempting to flood the building. he is now in custody and no injuries were reported. prince george county are awaiting autopsy results from a car found in a burning car. in forestville, when the flames were out, that's when firefighters found the body. 22-year-old metro bus passenger was shot and killed earlier this morning in southeast washington. police blocked off part of alabama and 22nd street near the bus stop to investigate. kristin fisher picks up the story from there. >> reporter: this block of alabama avenue was shut down for eight hours. it is not back open. this is the bus stop where it all happened. minutes after midnight, a male passenger was shot several times by two individuals. we still don't know if he was shot on the bus or at the bus stop. a metro spokesperson said it possibly happened near the doorway. the victim was rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead on arrival. the two suspects are still at large and we are still waiting for the police to release a description. and metro buses have cameras inside and out. the bus involved in this incident was taken to the crime lab and there is a good chance that the police have videos of the suspects, possibly even during the shooting and that would help bring justice for the man shot and killed here today. in southeast washington, kristin fisher, 9 news now. >> and if you have any information on the case, please call the metropolitan police department. investigators suspect an immigration scam may be the route of a 12-year-old girl's murder. jessica nguyen was found stabbed to death in her family home last may. the father, david hang, is charged in the case. he and the girl's mother were in a divorce battle. police say they have surveillance video which may show 11-year-old william mcquain minutes before his murder. the video is from a camera at the liberty gas station and williams body was found in nearby woods to the gas station. the video shows the suspect, curtis lopez, paying for gas at the station as william played nearby. william's mother was found murdered in their germantown home last week and lopez is accused if both killings. jury deliberations in the case against susan burk could begin as early as today. she's the former green castle elementary schoolteacher charged with abusing several of her first graders. students testified that they were choked, scratched and punched. however two teachers aides at the school in silver spring testified they never saw burk even yell at the children. vincent gray has said not to help and capture or deport illegal immigrants. the mayor signed an order saying the district is not in the immigration business. >> we want to make sure we have a clear set of conditions in this city where people feel like they can work with, cooperate with the law enforcement officials. >> it means that people can trust the police more, that they can come to them with major problems in their lives without fear of being questioned about their immigration. >> now police say fingerprints of felony suspects, including immigrants, are still submitted through a federal data base for all law enforcement agencies to see. d.c. officials tell us the number of undocumented people in the district may be as high as 30,000. d.c. united charlie davies is suing a washington nightclub and the makers of red bull energy drink for $20 million. the suit stems from a fatal car crash that ended his chances of joining the 2010 world cup team. he suffered several broken bones in the crash two years ago and 22 ashley roberta of phoenix, maryland was killed in the crash. the suit claims that shadow room nightclub and red bull served excessive alcohol to the driver of the vehicle. maria espinosa of clarksville maryland who was behind the wheel is now serving two years for involuntary manslaughter. a falling tree branch kills a personal trainer in northwest washington. ben mont's landlord found him on the ground. he just left his home and was walking to work when he was hit by the limb. d.c. public work crews inspected tree and found that despite the fallen branch, the tree is still healthy. mayor vincent gray will look at the earthquake damage at the national cathedral today. he is expected to make announcement about the district's response to that earthquake. repairs to the cathedral are estimated to cost at least $15 million. it is slated to open november 12th. still to come, find disturbing. all of the animals that escaped from an ohio farm yesterday are accounted for. dozens of animals, including lions and tigers, had to be put down to protect the people living nearby. greg black has more. >> 911, where is your imagine. >> yeah, there is a lyon on mountain perry road. >> reporter: 56 animals in all had been running loose in the ohio countryside. everything from bears to lions and tigers. this is how most of them ended up. their owner, 62-year-old terry thompson is accused of freeing them before killing himself. deaf tyes say they had no choice but to shoot the animals. >> if this had been at 9:00 or 10:00 incident in the middle of the day, odds are high that we may have been able to surround the area and keep everything contained. but our biggest problem we had was nightfall. >> darkness set in and at that point the sheriff had to say, the ones getting out of the compound had to be put down. we couldn't track them in the law. >> reporter: ohio lax laws are being blames for the tragedy. >> you don't want to put something out and not have the infrastructure or deal with all of the complications that are connected to this. >> reporter: buddy said a committee is working on a new law to address the matter. animal rights activists say the sooner that law is in place, the better. i'm greg black for 9 news now. >> one of the animals they were still looking for was a monkey. it appears, according to the ovisuals, that the monkey was eaten by one of the big cats which is eaten free. that cat was later put down. the second day of mass protests underway in greece. about 100,000 people marched through the streets of athens. they are upset over layoffs and benefit cuts. the great parliament is set to vote on that to keep receiving moved in. yesterday we hit 70 at 10:00 p.m. so the highs today won't be much above the low 60s. and out west, you get toward blue ridge or toward frederick, loudoun county and fauquier county, you'll see maybe a few more clouds for a little while in the mid afternoon. temperatures will be hoovering in the 60-degree range and topping out in the low 60s with a brisk southwest wind. sustained wins of gusting to 31. the monster storm still spinning on the great lakes. the rain around it and the big chill tonight in st. louis for game two of the world series and it's driving the clouds toward us for a little while today. but we'll stay dry. to the mountains, don't be surprised if you see some rain showers there in places like snow shoe, and they are seeing wet snowflakes. the next three days, 62 today and windy. probably a few more clouds than i'm showing here. breezy tomorrow and 62 with partly sunny skies. saturday 63 but a willie morning. got the autism walk. sunday looks nice at 64. and cuban pork. and you're going to put one together today. >> it's one of the most popular items on our lunch menu. so we thought we would share that with you today. we'll start out with cuban bread. it is not as available as it was -- i used to live in florida and it as all over the place. you don't want too hard of a bread so it's still light on the inside. and we're using a soft chibatta. so we'll split it and we do have a house-made hallow meania mayonnaise. >> with spice to it. >> we have a small garden at the restaurant and all of the jalapenos today came from the garden yesterday. >> you grow your own? how many months out of the year. >> the peppers out of the garden are end of the summer. so we'll spread a generous portion of mayonnaise on there on both sides. and then we'll start with the pork. we have a cuban marinaded park marinaded in onions, garlic, red wine vinegar, salt and pepper and a lot of oregano. >> how long do you roost this? >> for about two hours. not quite as long as you would for like a barbecue because you want to be able to slice it. if it's too tender it falls apart. so we start with that. and then a cuban sandwich is pork, ham, pickles, cheese and mustard. >> delicious. now while you're putting that together, you put the ham on, i want to talk about your annual oyster roast held on sunday october 30th and it's raising money for a very important cause. >> it is. >> and that's for a certain wing for children with diabetes? >> children's hospital is building a new diabetes wing and the black restaurant group is donating the money to build a kitchen. it's a teaching kitchen and what it is, is to help teach parents how to cook for their children that are diabetic. it is a very important cause for the black family and so this is our second annual oyster roast. >> if people want to support it they can come to the restaurant, addies, on rockville pike. >> i had that when they were here. very good sandwich. >> you were saying. hold on to
