discuss the election results. the president called the incoming speaker of the house, john boehner, to congratulate him on the midterm republican gains. rite now, we're looking at a live picture of in the u.s. capitol where the republicans mr. seize control of the house of representatives. at last count the gop picked up 58 seats in the midterm elections and they will hold 235 to 1891 advantage -- 181 advantage over the democrats. dozens of races, however, are undecided. one of those races is here. the results of the race against connelly and fimian is not official. kristin fisher has the latest from the fairfax county board of elections. >> i just spoke with a spokesman for connelly's campaign and he says they are now certain that connelly has indeed won this race. the returns are now in from those final two precincts and not only is he aha he has actually increased his lead by 22le votes. so he is now beating fimian by 820 votes district wide. what was the holdup in the reason we are only now getting the returns in from those final two precincts is because of problems with two voting machines. one in lauryn hill and the other in lorton center. they were stored at the fairfax county office of election and reopened this morning and what do you know both machines fired up. elections officials say the machines did not malfunction. it turns out it was a problem with the machine's printer but for some reason it worked fine this morning. the results were printed, the returns tallied and connelly is on top. keep in mind the results are unofficial. the election board is counting provisional votes and they have to officially certify these results. but again, a recount is still a very real possibility in this race. >> it's the difference, the margin between the losing and winning candidate for any race is between 0% and a half percent there is an automatic recount at the cost of the government. so the government pays for that. if the margin is between a half of a percent and 1%, the losing candidate can request a recount. >> reporter: brace yourselves. if this race does indeed qualify for a recount, it will likely be mid december before we have some sort of definitive winner in this race. j.c.? >> do officials have any idea why those computers had a problem? >> actually, no. they are trying to figure out that. the best way i can explain it to you is that one board of elections member described it to me. he said think of it like your old computer. a computer that all of a sudden shut down for no reason. they believe they let the voting machines sit tight overnight completely quiet and undisturbed after a day of heavy use and when they fired them back up, they worked just fine. i also spoke with a gentleman that oversees elections. he was hired by the democratic party to make sure that everything was going okay and he says that in his opinion, fairfax county board of elections did nothing wrong. this is not a personnel issue but an equipment malfunction and he says the equipment, these voting machines they are dealing with here in virginia are simply very old and that was the reason for the problem. back to you. >> thank you very much. the results of the midterm elections are going to have a big impact on president obama's remaining years in office. john boehner says the voters have made their voice clear. they want another change. alla has more. >> reporter: republican leaders say they heard the message voters sent them last night. >> it is clear the people want us to do something about cutting spending here in washington and creating an environment where we will bet jobs back in our country. >> reporter: john boehner is almost certain to be the next house speaker after voters angry with they sluggish economy handed the gop huge gains in congress. republicans took control of the house, picking up at least 58 seats. the democrats barely kept control of the senate after hard fought wins in california, delaware and nevada. >> i have great respect for our system. i'm going to washington again. we're going to finish this lame duck and then we will start a new congress and work together to move this country along. >> reporter: the republican gains in congress will be a huge challenge for president obama as he tries to push his agenda over the next two years. he is holding a news conference later today where he is expected to reach out to the gop. when the new congress takes office in january, the voice of the tea party backed lawmakers will be heard loud and clear. >> we have come to take our government back! [cheering and applause] >> reporter: rand paul coasted to victory in kentucky. while another tea party favorite won in florida. when it was all over, the republicans had pulled off the biggest party turnover in 70 years. cbs news, washington. alaska's hotly contested senate race between incumbent and the tea party favorite is still too close to call. the democrat has conceded florida's governors race to rick scott, the republican. a victorious politician in colorado was not jumping for joy. instead, representative did cart wheels across the stage last night. they used video of him turning cart wheels in negative ads but it was him who had the last laugh. >> thank you very much. we will look at some of the ballot questions. montgomery county voters rejected an ambulance fee. county executive ike leggett said it was needed to avoid cuts in emergency services but 54% of the voters rejected that proposal. county executive leg get was re- elected by a wide margin. voters in anne arundel county approved a new slots parlor. plans call for it to be built at the anne arundel mills mall, which is off route 100 and it could contain 4700 slot machines. voters in california rejected a move to legalize marijuana. supporters of proposition 19 blame the outcome on the conservative leanings of older voters, but exit polls showed opposition cut across gender and racial lines along the 600 block of lincoln street in rockville. well, they didn't make it very far. police arrested the two a short while later. after they crashed on route 355 near montgomery village avenue in gaithersburg. the trial has resumed for the suspect accused of killing drchana levy. ingmar guandique is facing charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping in dc superior court. a former pen pal testified yesterday that ink ingmar guandique wrote her a letter in which he said that he was jailed because of a dead girl. at the time of the letter, ingmar guandique was only in prison for attacking two women in rock creek park. a vigil held for a murdered professor of american university. friends and family remembered sue ann marcum near her home in bethesda, maryland. police believe that sue ann marcum was killed during a robbery. a potential suspect, who was ared with sue ann marcum's car, is in custody right now. sue ann marcum was a professor at american university's business school. a terror alert is now in europe. greece is stopping all mail deliveries abroad after a series of package bombings. police suspect that home grown militants are behind the explosive deliveries, which are targeting embassies and european leaders and also institutions. a booby trapped package reached the office of the german chancellor. >> greece is in this grips of a wave of terror to try to stop it authorities are stopping all mail heading overseas. greece started the 48-hour ban on outgoing parcels after a dozen mail bombs targeted embassies in the capital this week. i fallian prime minister -- italian prime minister is the latest head of state to find himself in the terrorist firing line. this cargo plane was forced to land in italy after they traced a suspect package. italian police say when they opened it burst in to flames. they believe it was the same type of explosives that reached the office of angela merkel on tuesday. they intercepted another bomb addressed to sarkozy. police suspect home grown terrorists are behind the bombing campaign. two greek men are under arrest in connection with the plot. investigators say none of the devices contain enough explosives to kill. this terror analysts says the bombs are symbolic, not to take lives but to send a message, but with nobody claiming responsibility, greeks are left to wonder what that message is. more rain. so your thursday afternoon commute, not going to be a good one and notice the snow starting to break out. colder air moves in at the higher elevations and friday morning could be damp cheese. >> put that on and then bewill add parmesan at the end. >> all right. you will spread that out just like you are doing. actually, here's a tip for parents who want their kids to eat better. because kids love the taste of cheese, if you serve cheese at the same time you are serving other foods eat more of like whole grains and vegetables, kids eat more of that. but at home parents may serve this pizza dip and serve it with whole grain crackers. >> put it in the oven for how long. >> we will put the parmesan cheese on top of it. great it over. throw the cheese on. that's fine. and when you are grating it, the convenience of the preshredded is so nice. >> really is. >> but the parmesan is easy to great. if it is at room temperature and the mozzarella if it is nice and cold. >> temperature of the oven? >> 350 for ten minutes. >> reporter: and comes out looking like this. an you can take crackers. >> just dip in. everybody loves the taste of pizza and you have got that bit of
