>> we have 10 coming to my house thursday. >> you are going to follow the advice you are going to give the rest of us? >> you bet. >> the main thing is how soon do we buy the turkey. it is thursday, do i buy it now? >> it depends if you are buying fresh or frozen. frozen can be bought anytime before thursday. you want to take the proper time to that you -- to warm it up. four basic things the first one is clean. >> we remind people of the four key steps. particularly at times like this when you may be cook fog more people than usual. just remember the four steps. clean, you want to have clean utensils, clean surfaces, war your hands often while preparing food. you are worrying about the cross contamination between poultry and something else. that is part of separate. >> separate is a big one. particularly with this holiday. make sure you keep raw meat and poultry separate from vegetables, fruits, things that may not be cooked for your meal. the best way is to use separate cutting boards if you can. if you can't do that, if you only have one, make sure that you wash it down with the hottest, soapiest water you can get. you can always add bleach to a gallon of water to additionally sanitize it. >> and actually cooking the bird at what temperature is it safe to serve? one temperature to remember for thanksgiving is 165 degrees. all poultry can be cooked safely to 165 degrees as measured with a meat thermometer. you don't want to look at the juices, you really can't tell if something is done by looking at it. use a meat thermometer and stick it into the thickest part of the bird. the thigh and the breast. after we have eaten, get the leftovers cooled. >> get them within the refrigerator within two hours. nothing sitting at room temperature for more than two hours. stuffed or unstuffed? >> reporter: absolutely. slowing you down 66 east. we have seen delays through the centerville interchanges. more volume here toward 123. all lanes reported on the trip into falls church. northbound interstate 95. again just to head up to the beltway exits and into springfield on 395 more volume through landmark and approaching the maryland street bridge. through silver spring and bethesda, crash on the outer loop of the beltway. west of 355 has been moved onto the shoulder. northbound bw parkway they are cleaning up a crash there. your next check of timesaver traffic 6:45. mike back to you. thanks beverly. coming up on 6:32 now. the debt super committee has until wednesday to come up with a deal to cut the deficit. we have been told automatic cuts will take place, but now we are learning congress could try to block those automatic cuts. the special committee needs to find more than a trillionian dollars in cuts. today they could announce they have failed to reach a compromise. >> the wealthiest of americans, those who earn over a million dollars every have to share too. and the line in the sand we haven't seen republicans willing to cross yet. >> there was an unwillingness to cut any kind of spending at all unless there was a huge tax increase. a failure to make a deal could also put long-term unemployment benefits at risk. prince georges county police are asking for your help to fix their mistake. they allowed a murder suspect out of jail on bond. he should have stayed behind bars no matter what. surae chinn is live with reaction. good morning surae. >> reporter: good morning to you, andrea. we don't know exactly what this clerical error was within the court system but we do know this man was able to walk out of jail a free man and now there is a frantic search nationwide. >> we'll have the capacity to take another life earlier this year. i would consider him armed and dangerous. >> reporter: frederick scott is from maryland, he was charged with first degree murder become in march for a deadly the shooting outside of a nightclub. called the surf club. in most cases, most suspected criminals are charged with first degree murder. don't get out of jail until trial and are held without bond. but in this case just six months after his capture a judge, for some reason, granted him a $75,000 bond, which scott posted. >> right now we are actively searching if a suspect in a homicide back in march of this year. he was apprehended in may in las vegas. it appears on november 109th the court system may have had a clerical error, and had given this suspect a bond, which he posted that same day, and was able to release himself from jail. >> the state's attorney's office says they are aware of the case and are working with prince georges county police. police consider this man armed and dangerous. if you at home have seen him or know his whereabouts, call police. surae chinn, a live reporting from prince georges county this morning. police in college park say one of two men wand in a robbery on campus is already behind bars. 21-year-old isaiah graham was arrested by george washington university police on an unrelated charge. police say graham and an accomplice put a knife to a student's throat outside of the cecil hall dorm last night. the victim's credit cards were used at a nearby cvs. police are still looking for the second man. optimistic redskins fans are pointing out the team looked good despite losing yesterday. >> the pessimist will say yeah, so what? you can do it. joining us with advice is josh howard with staffing from robert half international. how do you do it? go from a par time job into a permanent position? >> we find most companies do not want to let good people go. the best way to get your foot in the door is by doing part-time or seasonal or temporary work but treat it like a full-time job. make sure the resume looks great. make sure you are very polished going into interviews. treat it like a full-time job. be on time, work very hard and always put your best foot forward. >> when you think about part-time jobs over the holidays, you tend to think about jobs at the malls, at stores, at restaurants. you say there are a lot of opportunities out there this time. if you are not just in retail. what is out there? >> absolutely. the end of the year, the end of the fourth quarter is the busiest time of the year for most company. it is a time of the year where a lot of full-time employees want to take time off. that creates a tough situation for companies who need to get work done and creates a lot of opportunities for temporary positions in administrative roles, account and go finance a lot of companies prepping for tax season coming up in the first quarter, so they get people hired in the fourth quarter to help with that. there is just a tremendous amount of opportunities in most companies at this time of year. now this time of year, if you are looking for part-time opportunities, obviously you can target the seasonal stuff. is it more difficult as we head into the holidays to find a permanent opportunity? does that sort of ramp down as we head into christmas and the major holidays at the end of the year? >> not really. you would think it might. but what a lot of companies try to do is get all their open positions filled wfaa the new year so they are starting the new year with all their seats filled. some companies may ramp down because budgets are tighter. >> josh, this is great advice. we are going to make sure we get our resumes ready, send them be out and be ready for those jobs. thank you. the time right now is 6:38. in nine minutes we are going into the kitchen for a nontraditional thanksgiving. instead of turkey, we are thinking pork loin. howard says grab the umbrella, rainy weather with highs in the mid-50s today. next a look ahead to the thanksgiving forecast. keep it right here with 9 news now. good morning and welcome back to 9news now. if you are heading outside you are going to find fog is one of the biggest problems and high beams do not help you see any better. no those little water droplets really scatter back in your face. so yes, low beams. that is why people have fog lights really low. slow it down, especially up north. we star with the visibility andrea. that is the biggest weather issue in the morning. visibility down to near zero in spots. like frederick and leesburg, a quarter milech three quarters also at quantico. the rivers and annapolis visibility at one quarter mile. that is the thing we really have got to worry about. with the cloud cover down and low sun angle, the fog will take some time to burn off. temperatures in the 50s this morning. the sunrise at 6:57. our day planner occasional showers today. temperatures fairly steady or slowly dropping off by this evening into the low 50s with a northeast wind. in about that 5, 8, 10 miles per hour range. with the cloud cover around, lack of sun this time of year done give us much hope to burn off the clouds and the fog. we see one area of rain passing east of us although in ohio and kentucky now we have more rain. that will likely be here later today. 54 in washington. 52 cumberland. locally though, generally almost everybody is around that 53, 54, 55 range with calm winds. high humidity at 100% and low clouds or fog. nationally we have systems that continue to come at us from the southwest. one storm coming in from the california coast. that is going to throw some energy east. you notice coming out of dallas and little rock showers and storms moving east on i-40 toward nashville and all of this will make a run toward the east coast over the next few days. not just today,ton, tomorrow wednesday all look unsettled. 6:00 notice more of a light rain showing up. that will be with us for parts of the overnight, into tomorrow morning. tomorrow we are north in the 40s and only get into the mid-50s tomorrow but later in the day more rain arrives. then this system comes out, the cold front later on wednesday with a threat of showers maybe even a few thunderstorms as we warm into the 60s. mid to upper 50s today, 50s tonight, again more showers, tomorrow showers and rain at time 55. wednesday showers a thunderstorm 64. as we head toward thanksgiving though, finally looks better so i'm hoping the rain doesn't impact travel plans. keep that in mind. nice weather friday and saturday. what about travel plans right now? for most people it equates to turkey. our next guest says you know what? dump the turkey. we have pork loin to talk about. ed whit is here. tell me about it. >> we are using the flavors of the fall in it, we have fresh peanuts we are treating like a bean. they are in the bean family we slowly braised them in ham stock. we have a sweet potato puree, because you can't have enough pork and fat. greens and local, natural pork loin. >> smells amaze viewing we are going to plate this with the sweet potato. we just take a little bit of this and we drop it right in here. you can always serve this family style if you want to and not fuss over putting all the little garnishs on it. >> you were telling me 701 restaurant has a long standing tradition when it comes to serving on thanksgiving day? >> yeah we have been open 21 years and have been doing it basically almost from the beginning. we put a little sweet potato down, do a little bit of the peanuts. >> boiled or sauted? we put a little bit of this guy. they are simmered. it really smells amazing. >> i never would have thought of pork loin and peanuts. >> you have a southern influence with the greens and the peanuts and everything. we put the greens down. we are going to hit that with a bit of pork sauce we make. we slice the pork and put it right under there. >> how many people does the restaurant seat? are you full already this year? >> we are almost full. we do probably 700 covers for thanksgiving. >> 700? one of your busiest days of the year i guess? >> correct. we put this down on top of a sage marshmallow. >> you got your sweet potato and marshmallow. we finish it with chili powder. thank you so much. try pork loin for your thanksgiving dinner. not a bad idea, right?
